87MKII
So have a bit of a problem with my 1g-eu. Its going real flat in power and sometimes backfires out the air filter..Any Idea on why this would be happening would be mint! Its EFI and auto. Cheers
fulloc
have you touched anything? checked leads, plugs timing etc? blocked fuel filter?
fuel
check ignition timing too.
87MKII
No havnt touch anything yet. Its tricky, because when u hold the throttle at a certain place it will kinda try to die.. untill u give it more gas, then it will drive off really sluggish with like 25% power or something. Im trying to find some standard HTL's atm but havnt found any yet. Cuz u can see it has a few aftermarket ones, But they dnt seem to fit on the plug perfectly.. So that could almost be the problem there but im just seeing if anyone els has had the same or simular problems. (bad speller sorry)
Spencer
Double check the spark system followed by a comp test. If its still fucked we can then start diagnosing EFI related problems
DJZ
Is that a spark plug lead fitted instead of a coil lead?
Spencer
Haha looks like it?
87MKII
Na its a coil lead.. I just cheaked it and its connected to the distrubuter and coil pack tight and secure.. It got me thinking that it could be the coil pack maybe?? I dnt have a compression tester Anyone in wellington keen to help me out? haha Will shout ya box or smoke. Im in Jville if anyones keen
87MKII
Do you think it may be the fuel filter? because it feels like its not getting fuel.. Maybe thats why its backfiring out the air filter.. Hmmmmm
87MKII
Cheaked the air flow metre and it was pretty grubby, givn it abit of a clean up. Am going to buy a fuel filter this week and put it on over the week end. Hopefully its nothing more than the fuel filter!
fulloc
usually its timing related if you are getting intake backfire. no random vacuum hose or plugs fallen off anywhere? if i was still in welly id come help you out.
87MKII
True? Yeah I dnt understand how it can be timing related when it has been running fine for the past 2000kmz.. Can the timing just change or something? I'll cheak the plugs anyway and see how the fuel is burning. Yeah would be good if you were still in wellington lol cheers anyway man
Seedy Al
So it was running fine, and then it suddenly started happeing?
craig_b
you sure its back firing out the intake? also check the top of the coil where the plug fits and condition of your leads, my old 1ggeu had fucked leads and crack in the coil so spark would jump, check condition of rotor and the pins on the inside of the dizzy cap
87MKII
Yeah it has been running mint up untill about 300kms ago.. Will cheak the plugs, dizzy and coil etc now!. Will let you know how I get on cheers fullas.
87MKII
All the plugs looked like this. Dry, White, old!! LOL Inside the dizzy!! Shocking! So now.. Im going to clean it up till I can afford to buy some new shit! Going to need Plugs, Probably a new dizzy and some aftermarket HTL. What ya think?. Deff need to spend some $ on her!! Shes worth it
87MKII
Cleaned out the dizzy cap with CRC and an old Tooth brush. Im not too sure whats going to happen if I take off the whole dizzy from the head tho so ive just cleaned the Connector so far. Wait for everthing to dry properly and see how she runs lol. Fingures crossed
fuel
plug condition actually looks OK - you want it to be a tan/brown colour, though white does show it is running a bit lean. Seems to be a distinct lack of oil coking around the base of the electrode so that is a good sign. Cap and rotor do look like they could do with a clean up but I'm not convinced that's your issue. Backfiring through the inlet is almost certainly ignition timing related issues.
ryanfels
I have had a 4age cambelt jump a tooth while driving before. Does that dizzy look like its rotated at all? even just a touch? You can usually tell by the bolt holding it in
ryanfels
I have a good coil and ignitor for one of these if they are the problem. ive got the airflow meter to
