DangerousPerson
I replaced the air filter on my car the other day and noticed this shit coming up through the oil breather hole in to my air cleaner which in turn gets sucked in to my carb and makes the car stall and go mental. What is causing it and how can I stop it? I have temporarily removed the hose that connects it and stuffed it with a rag but I'm wanting to know why it's happening. fuel
and the car is...? it just looks like shit from blowby, perhaps condensation mixed with oil is venting out to form that milky mess. Otherwise it could be a BHG maybe.
Yowzer
Yeah, looks like a milkshake. What's your coolant level doing?
DangerousPerson
It's a standard as 4k. Have to top up coolant maybe a cup every two or three months.
Seedy Al
I would just say its condensation mixed with blow by then Stop revving your poor little k series so hard haha I would imagine the sinde of your oil cap would look the same. i would recommend running your oil breather to a coke bottle or something, to prevent that going through the carb as it could cause problems later on
Yowzer
That's a shitload of condensation though. Has the engine been sitting for ages?
DangerousPerson
Yeah oil cap looks the same. It's not much at the moment so I'm hopeful that it's not the head gasket. I'll try the coke bottle trick and see how much stuff accumulates over a couple of weeks. Car is my daily so it hasn't been sitting at all. phtmbl
The milkshake normally happens from lots of short trip running and condensation build up, of head gasket leak. Coke bottle trick is good try doing and oil flush and then change and driving it the long way wherever you go to stop the condensation build up. DangerousPerson
Pretty much the only driving I do is 15km at mostly 80km to and from work. Is it important for the oil breather to be going back in to the carb for the car to run well or can it go to it's own wee filter to avoid the shit going in the carb? Yowzer
It only goes to the carb so it can go somewhere. The hippies aren't too pleased with oil vapor entering the atmo / on the road etc. External container is all good.
DavidTheCreator
what does the oil look like on your dipstick?
DangerousPerson
Just did an oil change about 1000ks ago so pretty clean. Nothing abnormal about it.
DavidTheCreator
just blowby then, nothing to worry about
CaMpylobacter
give it shit for a week or so with the breather emptying into a coke bottle and see if it clears up. I find that shit with alloy blocks and/or heads does mean mayo with short running. need to get the oil nice and hot so it'll burn all the condensation out of it. Hemi
another fix is to do full load stationary cooling tests, this will clear out the cobwebs and let you know for sure if you have the dreaded herpesgasket. more then likely it just a case of build due to lack of proper use . we call this rocker cheddar in the industry
