shavenYak
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=29110 So I'm on the lookout for a new engine for this. Can anyone help? Looking for a combination of good and cheap.
KKtrips
Thanks to Uterus and Seedy for their towage and OldNathan for the parking space while I try to find a cheap replacement 4g63! Check the 6th comment down... (would be worth a call I guess) viewtopic.php?f=15&t=28814
Valiant
I had one of these a few years ago. I brought and wrecked a RWD Sigma turbo and put all the bits in the ute. It wasn't to hard, the hardest bit was converting the ute to a hydraulic clutch.
shavenYak
yup cheers kk I'll follow that up tomorrow morning

KKtrips
Try Kempys Mista Bitzys (the commercial side of Bitza Mitzys)- that will give you an accurate indication of what you should expect to pay from a wrecker. http://www.mistabitzys.co.nz/

CXGPWR
Pick a part in auckland is your friend, im not too familar with mitsis but surely there would be a FWD Sohc at pap and only cost less than 100 for a short block, But not sure how interchangable they are? Actually MOTOR, 4 CYL ASSY (NOT INJECTED) $174.00 BLOCK PETROL SHORT NO CYL HEAD $82.00 And there is plenty of stock at pick a part for a 2ltr engine so thats cheap?? shavenYak
Yeah that is pretty good, but I wouldn't trust myself to check their condition - No refunds if you get a shitter. Also Auckland's too far.
CXGPWR
If its stuck in hamilton then its not far away really, but yeah thats the problem with pick a part
shavenYak
Nah, it's stuck in Hastings..
mjrstar
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 445685.htm this was pretty well priced, but will not work with the current gearbox (i think)
shavenYak
yeah that is quite good but yeah think you're right, mine is probably narrowblock. Not to worry, even while miles away overseas, Fuel saves the day - will be picking up a shortblock next week some time.
fuel
that crank would work (and so would a 4G62 one) but yeah probably easier to just get a whole engine or bottom end.
shavenYak
YAY FOR FUEL! I now have a replacement bottom end that I'm currently cleaning up, and will hopefully take it up to hastings this weekend and swap blocks over. Something odd though.. I found this in the sump, a mysterious piece of bent thin steel. My guess is it was the spring ring from the oil filler cap, but then that doesn't make sense if the oil filler cap was a screw on, which I'm pretty sure it would have been.. Any ideas? Actually, could it be an old bearing?
fuel
which block, the original dud block or the block you got from me? it almost looks like the balance shaft journal bearing, just severely deformed out of shape? They are a single piece 360deg round sleeve bearing which goes in as one piece.
shavenYak
That's the block I got from you, hmm ok yes that would explain why there is a little bit of play in the balance shaft. Might need to look into this further.
shavenYak
So that would be part number 21 in this diagram eh?
fuel
bugger. oh well hopefully worst case scenario you can use it for parts like oil pump and crankshaft etc. *edit* I would say it's most likely 22 if it's the left hand balance shaft (the one driven from a belt) that you're wiggling and has play. Or are you wiggling the oil pump driven shaft from the back of the shaft?
shavenYak
The oil pump side didn't have a balance shaft, just the other side.
