felixx
OK I am about to slip some new bushes into the rear shackles of the 'box. I expect they will be tighter than the neighbours cat to get in. Do I use normal grease or something special like his and hers KY jelly?
felixx
seriois question guys, nor al grease or some special grease. I think nolathane ones come with something special. These are just rubber ones
kyteler
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/show ... p?t=170318 Not sure if that helps or not though, not exactly definitive. Although someone on here is likely to know what's best, perhaps give STOCKS or some other such Suspension place a ring a ding ding.

Snoozin
Silicone grease is the stuff you want for urethane and rubber stuff IIRC.
Unclejake
Felixx, use rubber grease. It is available from Repco in a tube (like toothpaste). I use the PBR brand. It is also useful and safe on other things
felixx
cheers Guys.. off to repco tomorrow then You guys are tops! Sorry for dumb questions but I am no mechanic, this is a learning experience
Unclejake
Get this stuff. You will be amazed how often you use it. It is also safe to use on brake caliper rebuilds, wiring grommets and speargun rubbers. It is made with castor oil so is less agressive on rubber than a petroleum based product. coldturkey
yeah, dont use normal grease/lube on bushes cause it can destroy the material. I had some shock bushes once that specifically said to not use any type of grease at all though.
felixx
cheers UJ.. I normally use soapy water on the Speargun rubbers, or 'goo' brand wetsuit lube.
Unclejake
^ perhaps try either of those options on the Anglia.
felixx
I will use the rubber grease as I am driving past repco tomorrow. Do I need to replace the bolts?
Unclejake
The bolts will be fine (if it even has them and doesn't use nuts and a special hanger bolt)
felixx
OK I did it today. I got drunk after work yesterday and forgot to go to repco. I used wetsuit Lube UJ (you would be proud!) It is funny how the bottom ones on the inside were completely slogged out (worn thru) and the top ones looked new. (I replaced em anyway)
anglia4
Rubber grease is fantastic stuff. I use it all the time for pretty much everything. Its good for anything you are putting together with an o-ring or rubber gaskets (like my mustang engine - used it heaps on this) Also its real handy for putting on tight radiator hoses and things, just need a little smear and they are so much easier to get on
