My name is Russell
3.5 is normally mint for that settup but that would make it worse? yeah 3.9 or probably whats in it now? Being an auto diff its probably got a 4.1 at the moment
Gaz
3.54 is the best diff to use and is slightly stronger. Will cost you at least $300 to get one tho. Gaz
Truenotch
Seems weird that the first gear ratio is so low and the fifth gear is so high... If you go to a 3.54 it might take those revs down to 1800 or less and stop you from pulling up hills in 5th. Any idea what ratio it is at the moment? Gaz
e revs down to 1800 or less and stop you from pulling up hills in 5th. Nah bro its Pinto powered 1st gear is useless with ford box's, what size tyres ya got? Gaz
Jase
here's your ratio's for a standard type 9 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th if you plug these and your tire size into the site below and you can get a comparisson between the two diff options Sierra five speed type 9 3.65 1.97 1.37 1 0.82 http://www.roversd1.nl/sd1web/wheelcalc.html www.threekings.me.uk/Minors/gearing.xls here's a ford ratio table
Jase
i did a quick work over and between those ratios (4.11 and 3.54) you'd gain 10km/h average so by that you could say roughly the revs you maintain currently at 90kph with a 4.11 would be the same as at 100kph when you replace with a taller 3.54. the type 9's have heaps of pommy support so close ratio kits and gearsets that differ are availible. low_mk2_escort
ive got 13 inch modgies with 205 on it may just be how they are and theres nothing i can do about it apart from changing to a different box just seems to be not getting the power to the rear end sorta thing will scream and hardly spin the wheels ect
KKtrips
To be honest - Sounds like you're doing it wrong... If you want to do burnouts and get the wheels spinning fast you'll need to change up a gear - try burnouts in 2nd or perhaps 3rd for max smoke.. Jase
if you're doing skids you best be on a closed road or a burnout pad, a strong pinto pushing a locked diff will skid through 3rd and up to 4th if you hate it enough, the key is to lock the diff blank the back brakes use old tires soaked in kerosene (max smoke) heat them tires in every gear for as long as you think possible, as you want the tires to go off in a lower gear (ie get past sticky more melting) then get the tire speed as high as possible ie max revs in the tallest gear the car will hold in its powerband. this will create more smoke than any other method and pop them faster. If you're entering comps down port rd, try and get on the pad first if you can, as any pad will get sticky as more rubber is layed on it here's motorvation it is me the rev limiter is throttle control
