Buick 3.8 running like arse

Yah, so engine is a '95? VR 3.8, running off factory VN loom etc.

It ain't running right, using tonnes of gas, low on power, seems to be down on a cylinder.

5/6 sparkplugs are still crispy white, while cylinder 1 is a bit different

As you can see. Cyl 1 plug on left.

I have been unable to do a compression test as my gauge does not fit the engine.

Spark plug 1 also seemed to have a bit of oil on it, but whether this was contamination from outside the engine or not I'm not sure.

Car does not appear to smoke at all, and the engine runs pretty smooth, but it is definitely lacking a bit of up and go. It also only gets 6 odd Ks to the litre, which is pretty piss-poor.

Kind of concerned at the mild knocking sound it seems to have developed, hoping it's just the sound of a dead cylinder as opposed to a fucked bearing....

Anyway any help or ideas as to what may be going on would be sweet.

make sure your crank angle sensor is plugged in tight,

and also check the pins on the coilpack plug male and female ( the female side is prone to getting wriggled loose, pick them tight with a small pin)

it will be one of these little probs for sure.

most likely the loom is pulling on the coilpack plug loosening up the pins

one other common thing is the plate under the coilpacks can give up,

check this by removing them leave it plugged in and turn the ignition on if it gets hot its that.

I would say that those plugs have been washed clean by far too much fuel.

AFM?

Plugs are brand new, only around 600km on them so far. Engine runs MAP.

Was thinking something could be wrong with the injectors, but have yet to test. There shouldn't be any difference between the VN and VR injectors should there?

Plate under coilpacks? How do ya mean? The bottom of the coil pack is pretty bloody hot, even after 1 1/2 hours of sitting.
