thegreatestben
Asking here since noone has replied/read project thread. I have a question for those experienced in turbos I need to mount the wastegate actuator to the compressor housing since clocking the turbo around 180deg. The flat raised surface with all the numbers stamped in it is pretty much perfect. I just want to know if it's ok to drill and tap into this? It'd only be shallow, it seems quite thick in that location. Its a TD05H if that makes any difference? Pic shows where an existing hole in the bracket lines up
Spencer
yea should be fine, just take the cover off you'll be able to instantly gauge the thickness
UTERUS
What Spencer said, and i'd also finish the thread with a blind tap so the thread goes all the way home inside the hole you have drilled
Hemi
sounds ruggd , but meh if you do make it through , seal that shit . reckon it would be safer then having not enough thread and the bolts falling out / pulling out . then again holes in that part of the turbo wont be great
mikuni
If it isn't that thick could you just weld a small boss to it?
Burntrubber
I had this problem on a T2 I just made a steel bracket mounted off the manifold flange to hold the actuator.
thegreatestben
Sweet, will pull the turbo out and go about putting some holes in there. they won't be going all the way through, I'm pretty sure it's plenty thick enough. I just thought I'd ask in case its hollow or something dumb before I go putting holes in it.
thegreatestben
Turns out its 8mm thick there Went right through but thats ok, shortened a capscrew to the right length. All gravy now
forced
That's a pretty rangi way of doing it bro. So your compressor cover now has a hole in the inside to disrupt airflow. Well done. Steve
kpr
the hole wont do shit, half the older garretts have holes in the like that.
Burntrubber
Agreed my 300zx turbo all the holes that hold the cover to the core go right through there's 6 of them.

Well done. Steve I don't really think it's gonna make any noticable difference Steve. I cleaned up the hole inside with a small file and the bolt is pretty much exactly the right length. If you had a valid opinion (which you don't) you could have said something earlier. Thanks to everyone else for their input
