Ap calipers only just fit under my 13x7 superlight by 3 odd mm's and i have not come across any other 13's that clear my AP calipers and i have tried a few now. They are heavy but do work well IMO. Perhaps contact your certifyer if he thinks you will require vented disks or not as i know he was not bothered with the pinto having solid rotors but wanted vented for my turbo project.

Austin Princess is the easy way to go.

I just thinking minis here as they only go up to 13' wheels. Maybe have a look at MG Metro 4 Pots (vented and non-vented), or Mini (8.4 inch disc) calipers. Or just fork out for HISpec or Burton from the UK, but that aint in the sprit of this forum really...

or as Low'n'Slow will suggest, just put a rota in it...

Personally I wouldn't go for the princess 4 pots - they're just too heavy. The standard 2 pots on vented discs are plenty good enough imo. For the back end either go for 9 inch drums, or there are plenty of disc alternatives - saab 900, xr3 fronts, etc. I used Chrysler 180's but there aren't that many about these days. You might need to re-balance front/rear if you go that route...

Sup guys

I need to figure out what to do with the brakes on my Escort. I have a pair of AP 4pots and am going to get the 2.9i capri discs.

My biggest problem is that the boosters all been removed to fit the side-draughts (and we've grinded off all the brackets etc), and I'm keen to run a remote booster. I have 0% knowledge about whats involved with this, and what to get one out of and any other bits I'll need. Anyone got any ideas or set up remote boosters in their Escorts?

Cheers

Matt

AP calipers are heavy as fuck but do work well. They add alot to unsprung weight however which aint the best for handling.

I run my Cortina without booster and its fine.. they are not 100% needed and you wouldnt fail a WOF for not having one.

There isnt any reason to goto vented disks unless you are constantly using brakes heavily, they will not give you any better stopping power but just stop brake fade.

Yeah AP's are too heavy for a Xflow or Pinto engined Scort I would suggest spacing the stock M16 calipers, with good pads they really are a decent caliper!

Do you think having the 4pot calipers and bigger disks will be enough stopping power for the worked crossflow? There are some Land Rover remote boosters on trademe at the moment, any idea how much of a hassle it is to set these up and whether its worth it at all?

Car will be used a lot driving through the gorge's either side of Gizzy where I've had brake fade in other cars, so think I might as well go for the vented disks.

Do the stock calipers fit over the 2.8 disks?

My Xflow was pretty well worked to man and I ran stock calipers over stock disc and a tiny lil Hunter master with no booster and it was mint.

There way better with the stock master though.

You can buy spacer kits to put the stock M16's over vented discs from Palmside.

Think I'm gonna try out the AP calipers since I have them here already.

Also im running my brakes through a pedal box, with twin cylinders and balance bar. It all works really well

How much work/money is involved with setting up a pedal box? I see palmside do a kit but im just not sure what else is required apart from the pedal box itself? Know nothing about them haha.

Buy pedal box, fit it, tow car to Hopps garage, pay about $60, tow home with new front brake lines with bulkhead fittings on the firewall, mount reservoirs, plumb them in and done.
