hi all

im in the process of changing over the drums on my mk1

2 discs from a mk2

the problem i have is that the mk2 strut hats are smaller

in bolt pattern to the mk1 .

so i thought i would just change the mk1 hats on to the mk2

but the shaft of the shocks in the mk2 are thinker then the mk1

so the hats wont fit on.

i cant for the life of me remeber if this has happend befor

and if so what i did

but any ideas guy?

cheers

Sounds like you might have to get some new shocks mate. Youll also need a mk2 steering rack as the tie rod ends are different size, plus mk 2 are metric where as mk 1 is imperial so cant just buy new tie rod ends and put them on ya mk 1 rack.

Lol, all ya need is a die grinder to make a mk2 rack fit a mk1.

A mk2 rack should bolt into a mk1 without and grinding of anysort. Its only 4 bolts and they are in the same place lol.

Also, from memory ya can drill the tophats but best answer is new shoocks

Its the balljoints at the end of the rack that are different, and you cant just swap them as mk1 imperial, mk2 metric. And i just drilled my top hats out to

well in the end i used a mk2 steering rack with mk2 sport struts

i had bought new shocks and had them machened down to keep

the lowered spings captive and i got them to make the tops thinner to

fit the mk1 hats.
