corrupt
what kind of turbo would be suitable for a pinto with standard internals running 5-6psi boost in a blow thru carb setup? i was thinking a subaru vf10??
RT
um.. I reckon a T25 is good for 12psi.. prolly good for less but the springs are 8psi standard. Subaru turbos are kinda weird.. I'd go with a garrett got they r most popular imo
corrupt
what about something a little cheaper, something i can pick up on tm for 200ish?
FIAT
IHI VJ20 of a GTX VF10 would be a slight overkill,
Gaz
^^^ thats what I was going to recomend. Or ca18det turbs perhaps. They would be cheap.
eke_zetec_RWD
anything off a 1800 to 2000cc motor shud work. the first suck through i used a old t3. vf10 or vf8 are good for suck through (i know u want blow through tho) becose you unbolt the alloy bend off the front and drill and tap holes to bolt on the carb ( like a su ) makes it simple. blow through is more complicated to do but can work. requires higher pressure fuel pump etc.
Raizer
Iv got a Vf13 & a vf14 i could sell you cheap if you want a Subi turbo
drftnmaz
i wouldn't use a vf10 its too small IMO i'd just look for a t3 off some eurotrash and use that. and eke_zetec_RWD: the vf10/vf8 arn't any good for suck-thro because they run rubber seals insted of carbon so they stuff out REAL quick. (i made this mistake and ran one suckthro because i thought the same as you, easy to mount a su and i did)
davidian
t3 off some eurotrash and use that. ) like what? somehow i dont think manu euros would sport a t3.. i need one
corrupt
whats the go with seals? im gonna be running a blow thru setup, so what kind of seals do i need? are rubber ones ok? i only want to run low boost like 5-6 at this stage as the engine has standard internals. so far ive thought of vf10 or vf14 but i have no clue as ive never dealt with turbos before. Gaz
You want carbon seals.
RT
dude you can run twice that boost on a standard pinto if you use a intercooler.
davidian
^^^ yup, what he said you can put that gtx cooler into use
Gaz
dude you can run twice that boost on a standard pinto if you use a intercooler. Why/how does this work?
davidian
dude you can run twice that boost on a standard pinto if you use a intercooler. Why/how does this work? cmon man, im shure you know HOW lol cooler charged air etc
Gaz
Shouldnt let you run twice the boost tho just because of that.
davidian
i think his "twice" was a relative term
Gaz
Ohh "twice" Also the turbo has to be able to keep up with the twice as much.
CaMpylobacter
probably could on a carb fed system it'd be gay though, i dont know why people bother going to the effort and running carby. you can run mental boost if your fuel and timing is set up to suit. boost pressure is negligible, just that people dont tune engines to handle it. 4age turbo it. pintos are gay
Gaz
^^^ There is still obviously a limit that standard pistons and unbalnced engines can take. And our street fuel sucks knob so detonation occurs at high boost.
