mk2_escort
u must b stupid 2 put sidies on a 4age blacktop! it already has quadthrottle bodies and those engines r simply amazing! dont mess around with carbs on an engine like that becoz u r only gona get less power then u started off with. some race cams will cost u close 2 a grand and with that u NEED double valve springs etc witch is anotha 400. 2 get some decent gains from the cam u should realy give the head a port and polish etc so do ur homework first mate! CaMpylobacter
meh, you'll get same out and out power on sidies, just lose all the driveability, and economy, along with the vvti etc. blacktops run a map efi system. you can run open throttles etc. there's no point going back 10 steps to rancid carbs efi = the new oldschool stz
corrupt
efi = the new oldschool stz in that case, whats the new newschool??
escortman
yes i realise they have quad throttle bodies but theres a lot more work involved in converting the esky to run efi my mechainc has called in a few favours and has got cheaper prices than that so do ur homework first mate! umm isnt this wat this forum is for
CaMpylobacter
extra work, and extra cost. If you're going to go to the trouble of fitting a 4age to an escort you might as well do it properly. the benefits of efi over DCOEs are awesome. sure for a race car maybe the dcoes would be sweet, but again, you get more tuneability out of the efi stz. link/microtech/motec, even factory, it'll be a far nicer engine. round town driveability would be terrible on side drafts. i know from experience even how much difference there is going from a 32/36dgav to twin 40mm dcoes on a 2litre escort. goodbye fuel. sure, alot more pow3er, but when the engine's been designed around a similar system anyway it's just laze that would be the deciding factor of quad throttle bodies over carbs in that case, whats the new newschool?? cars that look terrible refer: the latest suby wrx
Defective
the work involved in converting your escort to efi isnt really any more than changing the 20v to carbies... really if your mad keen on sidies you would be better off flicking the 20V and running an older 4age... imo converting a 20v to run on sidies is like buying a 351 clevo and knocking it back to a 302..... my 2c... end of the day its your car bro. escortman
cheers guys yeh i know the fuel bit is piss easy but its the wiring up of the ecu and other little fiddly bits that are makeing me think sidies
Defective
i think with a basic link theres only like 8-10 wires to connect up... but yeah i know what ya mean, i hate wiring and would unbolt bolt on shit all day long than try and rewire something in my car. Draizuh
To put it in your escort your gonna need a T50 or K50, T50 to A or K50 to A bellhousing, new pedal box, AE86 Crossmember (or mounts welded to yours). Probably have to do something about the dizzy too (sticks into firewall stz).as well as heaps of other fidly shit. and hilux diff would be needed. Blacktop would shit escort diffs. Hilux diff == Shorten up + mount suspension. putting stupid escort hubs+ brakes on it would be a waste of time so youd have to run 5stud mags. it would probably cost you a good 5 to 6 hundy to get the diff shortened for the escort. probably better off with a Capri or a ford 9". i like lowlancers idea tho haha. RT
would you rather a little more work in the beginning to have it run mint forever? or have to work on your twin carbs every coupla months.. it's not hard to covert to efi anyway! one extra fuel line.. a electric pump.. and a bit of wiring.
