By the sounds, money isnt much of an object to you, so I would suggest finding a late model Cortina Diff with ratios to suit your application, and get it shortened by an engineer. I did this to a mk4 diff and it set me back $500 from memory, makes a HUGE difference to a 2L 5Speed Conversion, I can tell you!

Also, when I had it cut, I got them to take an extra inch half out (cant remember :( ) of it so now I can wedge wider wheels under it and screw it down low without fear of scraping.

Depending on the length of your 6 speed (dont know anything about them), you can get away with a Ford Driveshaft combo deal. If its the same length as a 5speed box, the front portion of a 4speed Escort D/S and the front portion of a 5sp Sierra D/S will mate up perfectly.

Engine Code? I know the 2L Cossies are YB's, am I correct people?

You know you can pick up another 2L Pinto with a 5 speed for just about nothing...? It is going to cost ALOT to put a cossie in... are you going to run it turbo? because alot of dudes in the uk run NA cossies which seems to be the thing to do... but it is VERY expensive... as i don't think the cossie engines came out as NA.. so alot of work is needed on the engine to make it run without a turbo.....

sorry to hear you missed out on your engine but in all honesty you're better of without one of those twincam Sierra engines...

The Cossie YB head can be found outta Oz can be sourced for around

$3-4000 and stuck on a 205 pinto block. You just need a set of forged pistons and get valve cutouts machined into them.

I don't know why you'd run it without a turbo

Guest WESTCORT

Yous reckon the corty diff would be up to the power and torque of a cossie engine???

try a modified T5 box and a quaife "baby" atlas floating axle, ZF plated 7.5" diff, 4:1 ratio with quaife half shafts if money really isnt a question

well i know there use to be a mk2 with a 350chev (sounds a bit small though) that ran a 8.9 and under i believe here in nz.. so theres a target for yall :P and then theres that 8.3L mk1 on spannerfodder than runs low 9s i think.. probably goes a bit lower than that too.. plenty of competition.. i love the people on ratemyride saying there standy1600 is the fastest escort in nz or some shit like that

hope youve got a LOT of cash and time on your hands if ya want to tackle the likes of big dave and bruce mannon (he sold his mex a while back didnt he?.. was it a mex..) theres plenty of psycho escorts in nz.. remember even 2.0 n/a pintos can blow the 200hp mark with enough effort.. (and money)

my dream would be getting a 426hemi in a mk2  mwaahahhahahaha

the aussie diff is a good choice strength wise but you wont get a ratio low enough for a esky the lowest factory is a 3.5 out of a falc ute bit too tall for a big cammed 2 litre make it doggy down low. best choice hi lux 4.1 lsd strong and light easy to get a liitle pricey tho but by the sounds moneys no object

yeah considering manon told me his engine rebuild is costing him over $11000 in parts alone and thats just a rebuild of his already race engine and that doesn't include injecting it which is what he is doing now... $2000 for valve springs!

He also has a 250hp pinto apparently.

Housings made for the spring? leafs spring sdon't have housings... and if you were goign to make it 4 or 5 link you would need to have coilovers, which also need to be turreted.... i think

i just got a hilux axle disks etc without head of trademe for $40. i will chop it down my self and if all goes well a $250 LSD out of a surf will be put in. I dont call $300 odd dolars expensive for a diff. Actually i wouldnt even call $500 installed expensive.

Mind ou if you pay someone to shorten it then. good buy 500 mark and up to 600 for work plus whatever for cost of axle.

do you have a jig for welding your housing back together? dont just but it up and hope its straight even if its 2mm out of straight it will fuck the diff side bearings or the axle bearings in no time. ive had first hand experiance with that and it was a cunt! the housing was only about 2mm out over its entire length and it kept stuffing the l/h axle bearing. ended up taking it to an engineer he put it in his diff jig and measured it up. recut it and welded it up and it was sweet. his jig was very simple just a long bar about axle thickness with a treaded cone at each end that went into the tapered bearings at each end and a bearing cap arrangement that bolted to the side bearing caps. the tapered ends pull the diff straight as you tighten it up

or ya could be like my dad, blasting his 1300 through a 5.1:1 atlas

anyone read the Q&A bit in the latest classicford? theres a guy asking about making 200hp from a pinto, and theyre opinion is in the 10K pound region for na200hp.. or 180 for around 4300pounds.. pretty pricey huh..

any raceprep engine.. parts are gonna cost a lot.. and yeah 2grand titanium valve springs are becomming more popular huh..

I have a guy who "says" he can do it. He has done three others that i know of that are working fine. Not hilux ones however. I didnt ask how he did em as of yet. Maybe i should as i would have thought the same as above. Oh well the housing was 40 buck and i knwo where another is also just a bit rusty on the outer.

$30,000NZ for a 200hp pinto?... one word: Bollocks.

I know a dude with a 200hp n/a pinto and his was around $7,000 doing heaps himself.

Lots of people put twin 45's, a port n polish and a cam and raise the compression and think they have 200hp. But not even close.

However, it most certainly does not take 30K.
