how do get locknuts off to get your wheel off if you dont have the key thing? :?

Posted

Depends what kind of locknut. Are they the one with the keybit that goes inside them and are round on the outside, or the one that the key fits over??

Posted

...or you can get a socket which 'should' just fit and hit it on with a hammer. But you didn't hear that from me either.

bets to take it somewhere... i have heard of a mechanics tool called a stilsons wrench or some shit that can grip round things... they use it to remove bolts that are rounded and munted

ummm, I you want to keep the nut dont do this obviously but umm, you could get a nut weld it on to the top off the locknut and then youve got yourself a wheel nut. and umm yeah. you didnt hear that from me.

hit it with a block of concrete...

Or if you don't want to wakeup the neighbourhood, vice-grips work wonders.

Or a plumbers wrench, monkey wrench or whatever its called.

if you think its gona wakeup the neighboor hood why dont you just 'transport' the car to a safe haven and work on it there??haha

We are talking about youre own personal locknuts. The easist way to get them off is not loose your locknut keys in the first place.

You could take the diff and axle out, attach a lead and sell it to a small child and tell them that its their pet dog that went to 'the farm' for the summer, learnt a trade and became an all conquering steel dog, who needs neutered with a grinder

im not stealing anything, just wondered what to do if i got a flat tyre and needed to swap them...

locknuts are not all unique, there are only a certain number of key shapes... so take it to a tyre place and see if they can match it..?
