Replacing the condensor worked for me when I had the same problem with my 2k. Also check inside the dizzy for a broken set contact - Easy to miss and they do go ping given its just a thin bit of metal being bent backward and forth for 35 years.

Salvation Army Employment Plus in Wellington do a Class 2 licence course, free if you are on the benefit but you have to be referred by WINZ. Might be worth calling to see if something similar is in ChCh but if you are currently employed this won't be much help.

Ever since nats all of sudden it seems every car I have owned has some sort of oldschool.co.nz connection, this was my car around May last year in Christchurch. I'm not responsible for the green housepaint. Didn't have keys, started by touching wires together. The back doors wouldn't open, and when they did, would be when the car was travelling at speed. Thought I was pretty lucky to get $800 for it. Was good for a laugh for a few weeks.
