  1. Good idea - I haven't stayed in a campground here since I was 8 so others will have a better idea on where will put up with us the best!
  2. Yep the very same - hopefully in March the weather will be more suitable for outdoors port and cheese. Blenheim has Rarangi campsite here https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/marlborough/places/blenheim-area/things-to-do/campsites/rarangi-campsite/ (I've never actually been here @yoeddynzor @ChrisQCR?) Nelson is a little more problematic, the Tahunanui campground while being pretty mainstream has a 'green zone' https://tahuna.nz/accommodation/green-zone Looks like we'd have to book tent sites in a max group size of 6, but is $132 for a group of 6 at a non-powered site, or people could book cabins or whatever?
  3. And the final stage, Day 3 edited - sorry just had to try to re-route, but Google seems to think I'm a dick and that I don't know where I'm going when aiming for back roads... Here it is https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1PTxU0yCmEI9Ogb2r58O_4cDfhcx-w5MM&usp=sharing
  4. Day 2 route... Let me know if it doesn't make any sense... https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1rk2QIYvV-II3QYy6cvcHh-ygYrv_g9uq&usp=sharing
  5. You are in luck, the longest stretch of state highway is Kaituna to Pelorus Bridge, about 45km. Ive done only done this ride with small groups of 10 or less, and I've always been on the smallest bike, so I'm really in awe of how @johnnyfive makes it work.
  6. Having never been on a multiday group ride of this size, my idea is that the detours are there and back style routes that are optional and have pretty spectacular scenery, but may be on the gnarlier side for an SJ50 on stock tyres. The peaks/road ends I'm looking at are Mt Altimarloch (1700m and 100% fine weather dependent), Mt Patriarch (1500m), Inwoods lookout (1000m) and the Mt Robert carpark (800m). Is there an appetite for this? Or do we need to stick together the whole way? The logic of the detours is that the less intrepid riders can wait at the bottom and enjoy the serenity. Ideally your bike will be able to do 200km without needing fuel, as there isn't a lot of petrol stations where we're going! Here's Day 1 as a little tease, I haven't figured out how to trim the bit of the route that heads out to SH1 yet... https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1G4yXjXAnRQ8CSi-WwTN4hghbMgk89sek&usp=sharing
  7. Thanks, yeah it's only taken a few years, this base keeps the monitor at 30 degrees to the wall. My favourite feature you can't even see, tucked cable routing, as that's where the cables come through the desk. Task bar aligned not so great for such different sized monitors...
  8. Playing with the laser cutter this week, using Inventor and Slicer for Fusion. All flat pack designs without glue.
  9. That's the plan! There will be a seperate arm with a duster that will erase the time each minute. I'm kinda keen on the idea that it only erases the number that changes, but to be honest the code works OK (and is plenty sophisticated for a 16 yo!).
  10. Year 12s project to make a clock that re-draws the time every minute - it's upside down, but 15:10 is what it's writing...
  11. I was thinking it would also make a great book, @yoeddynz has a way with words and skills that is a pretty rare combination.
  12. Give me a yell and I'll ride out, always good to have an excuse to jump on the WR.
  13. Clubsport may have been driven by a Mum with kids in the back... Anglia is nicely balanced, so much grip at both ends. I should have worn ear plugs, a few hours in the Anglia took me a few days for the ringing to stop. Bring a Valiant next year!
  14. Matt took it down to Chch back in March where it beat a Mitsubishi Colt...
  15. Wow, such Gran Turismo 2, I used this for the wagon cup, until I figured you could use an R32 GTR. I think you'd be surprised with how much of it's value it holds, surely I cant be the only other piner.
  16. Seems like a religion of a kind. First ride with an old mate who lives KTM, has an 1190, a 640 Adventure and a 200EXC. What did he ride on Sunday you ask? His mrs's xt225 as the KTMs all needed work.
  17. https://www.gearshop.co.nz/products/jetboil-micromo-cooking-system?variant=29523955286114&currency=NZD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=CjwKCAjw2uf2BRBpEiwA31VZjxNWWOzPDchYBoT78rTMf3xuWrTjfx5RqIjrt58LbRz92Lf6rA69XRoCbc8QAvD_BwE I have one of these, 12L /100g and boils 500mL in 2 mins. I was super cynical until a guy next to me set up, cooked, ate and cleaned up before I'd even boiled with my meths burner.
  18. Interesting, my students build model hill climb vehicles as a project where the ramp approaches vertical. It is basically an optimisation project with gearing, weight, centre of gravity (amongst other things). They really only have time to develop 3 or 4 iterations in a term that includes learning Inventor (they are only 15 too!). I've done some brief reading, I wonder if we could combine the data from across the class to develop a hypothetical best combo. Is there a Taguchi for dummys beyond reading Wikipedia? /sorry for thread hijack!
  19. Yeah, we had 10 teams this year, took 4 up to Nationals from Nelson, 2 of our teams won events, so worthwhile coming up. Getting the hang of getting parts cheaper than Les, so if you're after anything let me know and I can share the links with you.
  20. Oh dear, another workshop teacher! We've probably met at an Evolocity event.
  21. Has anyone done small engine EFI? I enquired with Ecotrons and they want US$1599 for a kit suitable for my FT500, Aliexpress has a similar looking kit for about 1/3 the price from the Super Turbo store which is a lot more appealing.
  22. I've been hoarding files at school (probably have over 50) , we have electric furnaces, but I've really struggled with getting the heat into the files. I probably should persevere as the students would be super into it (get the parents to collect them from school to save dick headery at lunchtime or on the bus home...).
  23. A mate shot a documentary there a few years back about the Lord Howe Island stick insect called "Stuck on a Rock". Sounded pretty hard case.
  24. Brushless front wheels are great for flat lands but a little average when it comes to hills. Mid drive is great as you can run through the existing drivetrain to adjust gearing.
