  1. Awhile back when I was googling about these engines, I think (from memory) people were saying the bell housing bolt pattern on the block is the same as a 1UZ. You've played with 1UZs can you confirm they are the same? Would make aftermarket bell housings easy if they are...
  2. Reading that post I reckon a time lapse video would have been awesome... I guess you will just have to get another car and start over
  3. Hey Ed if you want some louvres hit up Greg/64valiant, he bought some on my behalf when I had my rx7 and I never bought them off him. They're at a guy we knows place in palmy, they should still be there...
  4. Is this on a standard JZ block yes? how much are they good for?
  5. Saw pics of the R100 on Ausrotary awhile ago, never realised it was in NZ. Does it have some paperwork or something with it so it could be road registered here?
  6. Bugger that price, he's been trying to sell that stuff for years. Also S3 rx7 front hubs and discs are one unit, they're not separate so won't be much use to Gaz.
  7. I'm wondering if the NZ savanna thing was a case of the car had been sitting on the lot for a year or whatever and they had to shift it so they changed the badges (and maybe interior stuff) to make it something 'special'. kind of like a Ford dealership banging a vinyl top on a falcon. Interesting thought. Anyway I like the work you are doing, the blue paint looks sweet, and standard interiors are the best interiors.
  8. Did they have fender mirrors? Sounds interesting, according to RXSUMO there was only one shipment of RX3s into NZ. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/32841-old-mazda-rotary-pics/page-2#entry873426 Did the other NZ new cars that didn't have a savanna badge on them have the same interior colour combo? Personally I prefer the dogbone style lights but thats just personal preference.
  9. Do you want some Savanna tail lights? theres some for sale in Japan at the moment, current bid is ~$350 (no reserve) but it closes in about 30 hours. http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n136100557
  10. Its black, whats wrong with black? makes the oil/water leaks harder to see.
  11. As far as LSDs go for these, do you know what fits/what car you steal one out of?
  12. Is there going to be a series of blog posts on this sweet trip?
  13. On the topic of compliance and people having to trash their paint to gain it, sucks to be this guy. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=768490047
  14. Umm I can think of 3 other shells off the top of my head that have had the swap done here in NZ, all using different methods etc for different reasons, and I'm am unsure if any of them have been run past the certifiers as they were all unfinished projects. Yeah steering column and sway bar set up were two parts I haven't looked at. Currently this thing is on the market as I want to go to Europe for awhile/ages. Whether it will sell I duno... somehow I don't think it will (because of its current state)
  15. Ok thats cool, I'll look for you etc. What do you need people to do, wave flags and shit? I can see if I can round up some other people if you want?
  16. Yeah I can come help. I didn't know it was on this weekend and just saw this now. What time do I need to be there? Are you competing?
  17. Useless fact of the night I just remembered, Savannas have the radio aerial in the windscreen, and I've heard something about the doors either having or not having side intrusion bars (they have the opposite of what the rest of the world got, I forget which way around this is and not sure if legit info or not). also, WHOOP WOF, I vote keep those wheels too.
  18. Is that what they are, I thought they look soooort of series 3 like but not quite, but said it anyway haha
  19. Fender mirrors are the unobtainium of early rx7 parts. (If you can find some factory electric ones lemme know...) Its hard to tell from the pic but looks like the left and right door cards are different maybe?? also those minilites look sweet, as do the hotwires.
  20. No need to ask for forgiveness. Yeah its a naming thing, JDM spec Rx-7s were Savanna Rx-7s, the rest of the world just got the straight Mazda Rx7. The difference is that the Savannas were a little bit flasher/had some differences such as: - Fender Mirrors, - 'Savanna Rx-7' badges on the front guards which have 3 pins on them rather than 2 that are on standard 'Mazda Rx-7' badges - Chrome rear number plate lights, rest were just black - see the two stripes above the inner door handles on the door cards, thats the twin chrome piping, it runs across the bottom of the dash, you can see it in your pics either side of the centre console, it will also be on the 3/4 panels either side of the rear seats, this was a savanna interior thing. Theres something else they have but I can't remember. anyway I carjammed your plate, it was imported from Japan in 1990, so it will be. also looks like you have series 3 front seats, wait for Ed to say he wants them or something
  21. That looks like a Savanna based on the chrome rear number plate lights and the twin chrome piping on the dash/door cards. poke your head under the front guards and see if its had fender mirrors shaved and/or 3 holes where the guard badges would be filled in (behind front wheels) EDIT: shoulda just car jammed it, which I just did, yeah it will be a savanna.
  22. IRS? IFS? I have toyed with the IRS idea, apparently FD gear lines up to the factory rails pretty good.
