  1. You sure its not a vacume leak? Maybe through your brake booster or PCV valve?
  2. (22 months after I put it in..) ?? When's the other one going to run?
  3. HBI engineering, Sockburn, Christchurch.
  4. Holden hate aside, Is there a Prince or Nissan vehicle that is similar to yours that had factory discs that you can swap to yours? That would be a good place to start. Talk to the person certing it before you do anything, find out what they want to see. Your car will have to pass a fairly basic test. as I remember its much the same as a WOF test with 3 hard stops from 100 kmh straight after another as well.
  5. Watch out, those Luce motors arent up to much, to be honest Procede boxes have their issues too. 5th gear falls to bits and/or the mainshaft to imput shaft bearing collapses. The 2.6 procede motor is Mitsubishi based, could you use a 4g63t? Or Holden v6 adapted to a hilux gearbox in your mazda?
  6. Hi. I think all the early RWD turbos were wide block. I swapped a turbo motor from an early sigma into my l200. I just used the wide turbo gearbox and the whole thing bolted to the ute mounts. I just had to change the ute to hydraulic clutch which wasn't to hard. I think the thing people do to use DOHC with a wide block gear box is to swap the DOHC head, crank etc into the SOHC wide block.
  7. HaHa. Sweet as. I know its a low tech option but.... Can you overhaull your standard suspension. New tierod ends, pitman arm, drop arm, ball joints and adjust your steering box? I have done this to both my Vals and I am very happy with the results
  8. I couldn't say what will work with what. In the past I have always found that all the parts the are used in the donor vehicle assembly work when they are swapped into the new vehicle. No I have no parts for sale on Trade Me, I'm not trying to make a sale yeah I'm not a firm believer in that, just R&P has been an after thought once engine conversion has already been done!! Yeah? your motor/gearbox just has to point at the diff head more or less. As it sounds like you have found out your steering rack and front suspension has to be spot on to work properly.
  9. Good point about the width. It would be worth getting the measuring tape and checking, MK1 Cortina isn't very wide. It would be worth a look/measure.
  10. Hi, I have been following your topic. I have been looking into this for my anglia. Heres my take. use the whole escort front end from the strut tops to the steering colum. That way you don't have to adapt this to that etc. mock the whole thing up and mount the strut tops where the castor/camber is in the right place. Don't worry to much about your sump, make a new one. The sump is pretty much a tin box, its not to hard to make/modify one. remount your motor once the rack and pinion conversion is done If you try to fit the rack and pinion around the motor it just won't work out properly, I wouldn't worry to much about the Capri struts, I think the only major difference was a larger damper? You can get all the parts you need to make Escort struts work perfect localy. Thats my 5cents any way.
  11. Yeah those nissan ones can be shits for sticking. Take your speedo drive out and put the oil in through there, You will have to guesstimate the amount.
  12. Yeah they are cool cars. I saw your thread, youre one looks almost exactly like mine to begin with. Hows the turbo conversion going? Yes 5 speed is great, I grew to hate the 3 speed. 5 speeds make the car so much nicer to drive. I have a 64 with V8 too. I will put some photos up at some stage.
  13. Thanks. I wasn't worried people have different opinions, thats good. My plan for this car is to start driving it as much as I can, its spent its fair share of time on stands already. Yes there was a 4bbl pacer may be thats where it came from. This is a VG, it has hemi power. VE and VF have slant power. Good luck with the sale, I'm sure it will be easy.
  14. Could be but I think Its unlikely. Redline ones are short as. I had a quick look on the WWW and found this http://www.hotsixes.com/index.php?optio ... &Itemid=18 None of them look like mine. Personaly I think it has been cast localy by an unknown company. No complaints about that though.
  15. Yeah take the switched wire, ie the one from the coil neg to the points and make it run through the white wire in your GT dash. So take it from the coil neg into the cabin to the white wire run the other end back out to the engine bay and connect it to the points. If you have electronic ignition you just need the switched wire and wire it the same. When it is all done if the tach doesn't work reverse the way you have joined to the wite wire. The little clamp is an inductive pick up, sometimes they are sensitive to which way the current flows. Hope this helps.
  16. The rare wheels in the gay stud pattern turned up on Trade Me. You can weld and redrill your axles and swap to later front brakes to change stud pattern. My AP5 is now Ford pattern I did a similar conversion but with a 9" rear. I don't know about the intake. I wasn't told it was an E31 part when I brought it. There are no casting marks on it so its hard to say. Yes Its very long, much longer than a Cain one. I had to cut the top off my shock thread to fit it. No the gear knob isn't chrysler, its off a series 1 Mazda 6 sport limited. It was laying around at work.....
  17. Oh ok. My mistake. Fair call, we'll have to agree to disagree though.
  18. Yeah I know what you mean, the low angle photo doesn't help. I'm over low low cars now though, been there done that. Was there a problem with the link? thanks for fixing it. Not a fan of big Superlites? Really? Each to their own. Thanks Mr D Yeah fish nets fitted, you got sharp eyes. I'll get some AP photos soonish.
  19. Hi everyone. Heres a few photos of one of my Vals. Nothing to special, mods to date.... 265, HE49 cam 465 cfm Holley on a L O N G manifold. Long tube Headders, 2 1/4" pipe. 20. Build threads not required, Vals are built. Diff upgrade is finished and spot on too.
