  3. I've charged multiple dead flat batteries with mine, might be hit and miss with the charger models. Lent it to OS'ers too who had batteries they had given up on. Batteries can be too far gone too though, up shit creek in that case haha.
  4. I have a Repco 8A 6/7 stage thing, has saved a few batteries. What you have should be sweet, if you already have it, not sure? I had seen C Tek were sweet too (and with long warranty), got the Repco one because it was on special and I was sick of buying new batteries.
  5. What is the deal with dust boots? I saw them being an option if your country required them. Have seen Wilwoods in many builds, and used in race cars, so they can't be too bad.
  6. You got a good deal. Getting calipers for WELL under half price isn't going happen every day though, that's all I was saying.
  7. Did you get those brackets made yourself? Sub $400 isn't exactly typical for a pair of 86 rotors, brand new superlite calipers, new pads and a custom made bracket. Unless of course this was $400 in 198something lol. I think I have my answer in any case, so thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm sure it won't be my last tech question.
  8. Yeah that is pretty much why i'm leaning towards kit. Nothing needs to be rebuilt. Even if I lego together another bunch of parts (quite easy with Toyota), i'll still need to rebuild whatever calipers I end up with and buy new discs to suit. Current discs are solid yeah, and approx 200mm diameter... even with 13's the brakes look comical. A ~260mm kit would be more than enough I think. I can appreciate that I can cobble many parts together and get a good braking setup. I just don't have the motivation to go through that process. It would save me money for sure, but it might also put the finish time back 6 months. By the time I find the right bits, rebuild them all, find it hits on something else, get more bits machined, find the master is no longer suitable, sort a bolt in replacement for that. I've seen multiple Toyota parts that you can bolt up. Often you end up needing to find different struts, certain steering arms, then get such and such discs machined down etc. Not Ken.
  9. Disc would be around that 260 mark. Reason for the kit is that it seems like a proven combo that doesn't require me to find any parts to get the job done. Buy kit, fit kit, cert. Overkill, and will exceed my requirements, but I'd rather have more in the tank as more speed will hopefully come later. I've read many many threads on the number of combos you can run. Most parts are now unicorn spec or require custom brackets etc.
  10. Shocks won't be an issue, will be getting adjustable platform wedged in it. Overkill for what I want to achieve, but future proof. @RUNAMUCK I just want better brakes overall to be honest. The stock setup was never designed with abuse in mind. Sadly I lack TE7* chassis which will have come with better bits. I figure if I'm going to the effort of redoing the whole lot, I might just pony up the coin and get something decent. Cert will already be required for car, so makes sense to do it in one hit. Reason for question is that I wasn't sure how having uprated brakes (by a margin) would affect overall braking performance. I don't want to end up finding out the rear needs upgrading to discs as that will be a PITA. An adjustable proportioning valve is a relatively easy solution.

  12. Yeah i'm just keen on brakes that won't limit my hill driving. Do it right, do it once etc. Cheaper to just replace with stock bits by a mile. MRP lists 262mm for 14" wheels, will look into those deets closer to the time.
  13. Not planning on making it boogie at the moment, but I do enjoy a good hill run. Just looking into options at the moment, but would prefer to spend money on improved brakes rather than putting new stock brakes on that will be average. Granted a new set of rotors and pads will do wonders, they will still get maxed out on the Akaroa run. So thought for the low cost of three times the cost... I could upgrade the brakes and not have to worry about that. Then if I put in something that can pull the skin off a rice pudding, it's already sorted. Yeah have seen the T3 kit, haven't fully compared costs, but they seem similar. Will be after a kit that fits inside 14's, so will have to keep that in check too.
  14. Probably a bolt on kit. Just looking at my options and doing some homework. It seems that you can mix and match Toyota bits, most of which is now spendy and unicorn spec. Until I inspect the parts, I don't know sizing and whether the kit will bolt up or not. Just thought i'd ask so I know what to expect when the time comes. Example kit:
  15. Not concerned about cert, will need a cert to get it as jacked low as i'd like. So figure I may as well upgrade the brakes rather than spend all the coin overhauling / buying all new stock stuff. I'll need to deliever Tofu to Barry's Bay, so brake fade is something i'd like to eliminate at the same time.

  17. AE70 - drum rear, disc front. Negatives to upgrading only the front brakes to bigger discs / better calipers and leaving drums on rear. Assuming piston sizes don't negatively impact on pedal feel. How will the braking of the vehicle be affected? Will things go pear-shaped balance wise due to the much better braking performance up front compared to factory? Suspension will be upgraded, tyres will be appropriate, with zero power increase. Just wanting increased braking performance.
