  1. man, i learn't a lesson. Carb cleaner is your friend. pulled it to pieces and gave it some love... now its running real good... hesitation gone I love carbs again.
  2. in my opinion they start looking real shit when the wheelbase gets too large. it becomes less of a bike and more of a 3 wheeled car.
  3. I notice you have posted a pic of a starion strut about to be welded. Is there anything wrong with welding to the cast steel in that aplication? Sorry to be so off topic.
  4. I did my supra and AW11 like that. It is quite possibly the most satisfying task in the whole wide world.
  5. http://projectzerog.com/rx7transmissions.shtml Mazda manual transmissions bolt to my engine But if changing to a manual transmission maybe it would be wise to upgrade the motor to something nicer (evo engine). hmmn, time to start accumulating parts.
  6. Thanks man! Yeah an SC14 would be rad. You seen one of those on this engine in the past or? Hmmn, suckthrough setup would be simple enough. Apparently there was a twin solex carb manifold available for these and some guys throw on webbers for much better performance. Certainly is not really confidence inspiring at the moment, especially with the hesitation it has. I think i'll try a gruntier spring edit: Spent some time out there trying to work out what was wrong with the accelerator pump. Pulled it to pieces a few times to check gaskets/diaphragm etc and cleaned out. Had it spraying really well for one or two pumps and then it blocked itself up good and proper. DOH, now i need an air compressor. I had never played with a carb before so it took me a wee while to work out what was happening. Turns out the spring pressure (which governs how much fuel is squirted in during accel) is adjustable and was set very low.. so hopefully now once cleaned out it will spray good and propper. I must admit that carbs are a wonderful thing. Wish i'd started playing with these a few years back.
  7. Thanks guys. I had a good look but didnt take the lower filter housing off and without doing that cant see the part number. I checked that fuel squirts in and it does.. it piddles a little jet into the inlet. how much force should that jet have? and should it be a jet or a spray? I'm thinking it could just be the spring that pushes the plunger has gone a bit soft or something? Also shortened the gearbox kickdown linkage a suitable amount- she feels much more lively now as it actually tries to rev a bit before changing - before it was very very very lazy to drive. Wish there was a turbo involved.
  8. Any help much appreciated. Whats the story with the carb not pumping in fuel when ya jab the pedal- does it need a carb kit? Anyone know what the carb is thats in this thing? What models do the 8 bolt LSD's come in?
  9. So took it out for a drive thismorning to pick up my little sister. Was nice having the windows down and the sun shining in. Last night driving back at midnight it was fuckin miserable. Got home and adjusted the drivers door latch so that the door closes flush I know nothing at all about carbs and how they work. i know that when you jab the throttle it should be squirting in extra fuel to compensate for the sudden burst of air- but this is not happening at all. Hesitation fail. I've never had one of these things is pieces but is this pump part easy to fix and im guessing it will need a seal kit? repco sells this kinda stuff? I've found a kit on ebay for $300 for fitting another carb in place of this one- it might be the go. Todays mission is to repair the wavy cracked dash. I'll just cut the offending part. fuckin. off.
  10. So, picked this up tonight. Its the oldest car i have ever owned at 1980. Its got character that my honda (the car i swapped for it) lacked. I think most of you will already know the car as it was owned by two other forum regulars before me. I love the shape, love the interior, kinda love the color/ everything except the fact its an auto which seriously hinders playtime. I hear its got the stronger 8bolt diff so LSD's can be had out of the wagons, which years and models in particular can i find the diff in? It needs cut springs badly - the shortened rear shocks seem to be at full extension and it needs some decent old wheels. Any info on these cars would be much appreciated from anyone. googles getting a pillaging tonight but theres not a hell of a lot of info out there. Phills GSR seems kinda the same but mostly different- does anyone know if wheel sizing is the same between our cars? i think mines live axle and his is IRS? I'll repost some pics of the car tomorrow morning, im off to bed -Nathan
  11. I personally think that is rad. Like the fact it doesn't have a stupid fork angle.
  12. Best looking escort I have ever seen
  13. Fuck no! Every other trike you see has a vw engine in it and they just look silly. 302w for the win! I agree! What have you got that easily bolts to that gearbox? having the motor between your legs is way better looking than having a VW lump behind you- having an empty hole infront of you looks stupid. You should just use the motor X forks.
  14. cool project man! You should def run an audi engine rather than an ecotec. Love the trans. LSD might make steering a tad difficult in some situations? So much tire out back compared to up front. You should solid mount the trans and engine and use them as stressed frame members. Please run a fairly narrow track at the back with really fat wheels.
  15. Too hard to start each one if you put them in series. so put them side by side and one above the other I've been thinking too much about it
  16. OH my god we should be paid for inventing of this calibre.
  17. Go to your local hobby store and buy 10 big model plane props and get hubs and spinners machined up by your machinist friends...then make something like this but with ten motors out front.
  18. Truenotch has the right idea!
  19. I know sweet fuck all, but a small block chev would be cool and parts are sooo cheap for them. old runners are cheap on TM or i know a guy in hams with one for $700 (not sure if thats a good price or not) that runs and comes with carb and everything else to make it run. I used to think they were average till i drove this thing with a mild as 350 in it....the tq blew me away.
  20. The shear loading placed on the first sprocket will be HUGE and decreasing around until the last motor
  21. Ditch all motors, sell on tm to recoup costs. Replace with weed eater motors that have a centrfugal clutch on each output.. So you can start each one by hand. Force on motors closer to starter will always be too great imo without tons of work.
