  1. I am liking the sounds of this but I don't know if I can commit to it yet
  2. Also, this. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 365739.htm These things are tiny / similar size to KKs lighter I think the CT9s are even smaller, and pretty cheap.
  3. Come on man, what the hell is he gonna do with a brown lighter?
  4. Not necessarily, most cars with mechanical fans run viscous couplings, so the fan can effectively freespin and doesn't really do much. Although older cars did have solid mounted fans that did run all day long, they had flexie blades that flattened out at high speed and again didn't really do much.

    D.I.Y gaskets

This ball peen hammer trick sounds pretty nifty. Might give it a try someday (without knowing what the fuck I'm actually meant to do with the hammer)
  6. Last I recall the adjustable ones at Supercheap were $60. That was awhile ago. Was using them in both my Avengers and they were all good. Otherwise, you can get thermostat switches from Jaycar for dunno how much even though I work there. There's one in 80 deg, looks like this $6.90? Have one on my brothers avenger, cabletied to the bottom coolant hose (can't remember what temp it is though) It seems to work not too badly. It'd be better contacting metal as opposed to a rubber hose though.
  7. It still spins, although somewhat reluctantly, so I'd say the bearings are pretty fucked. Still hit 5psi at moderate throttle before I disconnected the wastegate actuator anyway. However it did spool up a lot slower than normal, and sounded fucking horrible while doing it. In any case, it's fucked.
  8. Dunno. It's still on the car at the moment, but it is very audibly fucked. Make an offer I guess. Probably won't have the replacement sorted for a few weeks though That is it there. Not overly exciting.
  9. If you want, I will soon have a CT20 available that makes all sorts of cool noises. Will be ideal for your application
  10. Can't say on the ratios, however the shift points will most likely be a lot higher to suit the petrol engine rev range. Depending on the g/box, you can slacken off the kickdown cable so it changes earlier, or there may be some other way of adjusting it that I don't know about.
  11. TBH I would not even consider getting it repaired, unless you really can't find a new one, or have some form of sentimental attachment to your current one. Anything involving the voodoo that happens inside an auto costs megadollars. Especially at Marshalls. Converting my cressida to manual would have cost considerably less than getting the original auto repaired when it shat itself. However I ended up sticking another auto in it, which also shat itself a few years later.. Moral of the story; Autos suck. Get a manual.
  12. Fuckin' link it already. Road tune it on the way down to Palmy
  13. Thursday for me, dunno when, but sometime. Yah.
  14. Slightly off topic, but is your golf the slammed one with roofracks and rusty front guard? [edit] Ignore that, it is.

    Head bolts

Yah, go ARP if you want it to last a bit longer. Otherwise just mash the old ones back in, with a bit of superglue around the gasket to seal it up. How can you not get a full set? That sounds rather strange..
  16. Nah can't dump oil in the shifter hole in these things, that part is just full of grease and is separate from the rest of the g/box. I have a photo somewhere... Oil in there won't be going far..
  17. I fail at reading the internets.. Did not even know about this until 105 txted me after.
  18. TBH if I couldn't find it, that was what I was gonna do. Would have just ended up with a fan lodged in the radiator.
  19. I just woke up to the sudden realisation that I didn't do up the waterpump pulley bolts.. Most probably the source of the bizarre noise.
  20. Doesn't look like engine mounts. Was thinking it could just be some sort of diesel rattle, but it got louder and more concerning. I cranked the tensioner up to spec, not really keen on pulling the whole front off again.. Will see if I can bend the cover back enough to get a look inside. Might find some high quality audio recording device for the sake of online diagnostics. Gonna be pretty gutted if it is something internal.
  21. Sounds like the front of the engine, but can't really pinpoint it. Engine still feels to run sweet, but it is a pretty loud noise at idle that was not there yesterday. That would be mildly gay if that was the case though.
  22. Seems however, as soon as one problem is sorted, another one crops up. This one is in the form of the sound of something hitting into something it shouldn't be.... I'm getting kind of annoyed at this car.
