  1. I fixed my mate's radiator about five years ago with knead it and it's still holding
  2. All three back to the future films over three nights at firefly drive in. http://www.fireflycinemas.co.nz/movie/back-future-oct-2015/
  3. I'd quite like one of them, or an elektra barlume.
  4. Looks good, I like the old orions. That stainless polishing is a labour of love.
  5. Most inverters don't put out a proper sine wave, I think they call it a modified square wave and your amp might not like that.
  6. My containers are all good. The Roastery is awesome, slowly evolving. The workshop isn't insulated so it alternates between being an oven and a freezer. Keen to come take a look sometime if you're not too busy.
  7. Choice bro! congrats on moving in
  8. A mate gave me one of those rechargeable pocket speakers a couple of years ago and it's been real handy, but isn't really loud enough once you have more than a couple of people hanging around. Enter the old Jansen: It's ex porirua high school so it's been well looked after but it looks like someone's poured beer into the amp section and I've had it for about a year and haven't got around to fixing it. So I decided to chuck in an old Pioneer car amp that was lying around and an old car battery too: This is how I've set it up just to test the concept. I hooked it up and it just rocks. I'll get some battery terminals and hook up some charging facilities, also a usb Jack and maybe a Bluetooth receiver.
  9. Just gonna span your thread with this, there's a couple of quite cool ones there: http://www.collective-evolution.com/2014/10/14/you-can-turn-a-2000-shipping-container-into-an-epic-off-grid-home/
  10. Yeah lpg likes a fair bit more initial advance and a little bit more full advance, but the two vans I converted still ran fine on petrol. Maybe your carb wasn't in the best condition?
  11. There are two safety features on your drill that protect you from being electrocuted. The first is the insulation on the wires, which is obviously only partly working. The second is the earth connection, which I hope you've fixed. If #1 fails completely, your leathery hand won't insulate you, it will just clamp you with all your strength to your drill press until your neighbors come to complain about the smell. Those things you plug into power points to check the wiring aren't rcds, just socket testers. An rcd runs the phase and neutral wire through a small coil. Normally the electricity runs both ways through the coil and the magnetic field is cancelled. If some or all of the electricity ends up going through you to earth, a current is generated in the coil just like your transformer/light bulb trick. The rcd detects this current and cuts the power so you don't fry. I don't want to sound like a lecturing nanny, but rcds are so cheap and effective that nobody should be without them, especially working alone in a workshop. [/rant]
  12. There are two types of smiths tacho. If the tacho says rvi on it (induction loop), it won't work with an electronic dizzy. If it days rvc, it will.
  13. If there's any old Subaru leones rusting away in your neighborhood they have datsun r160 diff, and the turbo ones have lsd + disc brakes
  14. Craned on? Why not just back a truck up the drive and hiab it on?
  15. It's much less bad when somebody else runs over the neighbour than if you do it. Does this mean you move in soon?
  16. I bought a milling machine, it's about 350kg. I need an engine hoist to get it from my ute into my shed. Does anyone in Wellington/porirua have one I can borrow for beers?
  17. Yeah Stirling is way cooler, but you'll get sick of everyone saying how steampunk it is.
  18. A Peltier thingy from jaycar and an electric motor is all you'd need to build one. And an hour out two while the boss isn't looking! Actually, I've got a Peltier thingy out of a car beer cooler you could have if you want to give it a try
  19. Ok I read up about pcv valves and the internet convinced me they're worthwhile. The original inlet manifold has the thermostat housing and a water channel between the heads (Subaru) so I might hook it up as a vacuum collector.
  20. Thought I'd dredge this thread rather than start a fresh one. What do you guys do with the pcv when you use bike carbs? Do you plumb it into a vacuum collector or just catch can it?
