  1. What do those "pimped" tool chests with stereos use btw?
  2. Small battery and a trickle charger perhaps
  3. Do the lights work while.its.running or.just not at all? Fa50s dont need a battery to run. Perhaps dissconnect and see if the lamps flash while running (incase battery is draining all the charge i guess) Drill a hole in the centre of.the muffler - above the tiny original outlet. Worth 2kph top speed
  4. Felix i find fork oil leaks out too fast. Sawpped to straight 30 or 40 wt and is much better
  5. I do this with my lever arm shocks. Probably a different seal on those
  6. If onky there was someone with knowlege of bubling gas through liquid to consult
  7. Do a compression test before you open it up. Have you tried the leads in different positions - could be a dodgy plug, lead, or cap.still
  8. Testing a lead without anything in the end - i.e. A sparkplug is bad for the ign system too btw do you have points or electronic ign? Coils typically dont care what way the electricity flows through them. Mines been positive and negative earth without issue and have seen cars with the wires hooked up backwards and run for years electronic ign doesnt like that tho, and if you have that it may be the cause of.your problems otherwise check the points and bung in a new condensor
  9. Thinking about it. I dont think iv ever seen someone change their cap or leads when fitting the same retrofit kit into an existing dissy. Food for thought
  10. Nice exploded engine pic always wanted one. Had a good perve over a racing one a wee while back. What a larf that would be
  11. Have heard some conflicting results if this is ok or not. Some are saying no worries, no radio and carbs will be fine others are saying that the pulses will affect the gubbins of the electronic distributor themselves anyone with real world experience care to chime in? Would prefer to use my lovely braided cloth leads obviously rather than fluro blue silicon horrors
  12. Staggered modgies for period corect nzdm please
  13. Itl be something 1930s - 40s again. But not.till im settled down someplace
  14. Jeeze all i got to do was measure a k series engine gor someone to rebuild and build a shitty weathervane nice work on the hubs.
  15. Said it before im sure. Cant wait to see this thing driving and turning heqds for all the right/wrong reasons
  16. Nah as rustisize said flatheads are neat plus all the builds end up the same. Theres only a handful of tuned sidevalve morries out there - i have motorcycles for real speed have decided to keep this one NA and keep my blower for a different project (if this was a 2 door or convertable id be more inclined to bolt the blower on) not to mention if i do a mod that requires a cert then il end up modifying everything and never have it on the road. So pretty happy with my plans for a factory/period tuning house sedan for the sporting family man in summary. I like slow old brit cars ok I ordered the distributor direct from the manufacturer. They sound pretty good about sending a new one out if you get a dud. Not sure if they own the original tooling for yhe lucas distributors or not. I seem to think.they do, car is totally usable Alex, its only a little slower than your house
  17. #chequebookbuild Time to start thinking about what il do with this when i get back New repro electronic 23D distributor will be waiting for me. Sold by accuspark so i am hoping the quality is acceptable/good enough to drive. Will freshen and hot up the engine. Think i can get away with a rering if i had to but this will have to wait till its all stripped down. Want to go biggest pistons i can to get it up to 1100cc. But dang they aint cheap anyway. Off the top of my head timing chain new exhaust valves oversize intake valves new valve guides cam grind while its apart i may as well have a second go at porting, and il balance and polish the rods and pistons Oh and sort the carbs and extractors out finally of course for what i want to do its throwing money away. Could just stick a fiat/datsun/ even an a series engine in there and have double the power minimum with no mods anyway. Box of new engine bits will come, will have another measure up and order the hop up parts and get some machining done. Anti roll bar kit if shipping is within the relms of only eyewatering/find one locally spending my days dreaming of a sporty touring engine for lush coastal cruising anything iv missed?
  18. Just found this thread 10/10 - my vote for coolest offtopic build sharknose rules paint theme rules needs bozo pipes though
  19. Lsd kit sounds like its a phantom lsd? Or will be similar. Someone on here had used one if you search it.
  20. Thats easy for you to say whenbyou have a big shed...
  21. 5.5j 14 steel rims fitted with 185/65/14 tyres i think this is my ideal look. 2 inches wider than the standard rim (cant use 4.5 van rims as my pcd is different) Im thinking to get the centres put in new bands rather than widening - to give me a safety lip better choice of tyres too
  22. And as for the filler cap blowing off - pressure out the cap, or excessive smoke (a little when you shut off the engine is normal) is a sure sign oof exessive blowby. Leakdown test is probably a good idea, then consider your options regarding rebuilding or replacing (though i have heard of it on highly tuned high reving flatheads, where the crank moves fast enough to increase crankcase pressures enough to pop it off. Probably not.your issue though)
  23. I can answer your draft tube question is basic. Just a tube which runs from the valve/tappet cover down below the engine. Typically then curves a foot or so back and runs along side the chassis rail or gearbox. Used to vent crank case fumes out (wouldnt want to suck them back in for emissions and dirty up your plugs now would you) when driving, the air moving past the opening creates a vacuum and sucks the fumes out from your tappet area. (try this with a straw and a bowl of water if you like, blow against the end and the water should rise) this is also why if you have a bit of a worn engine you end up in a cloud of smoke when stopped at the traffic lights in order to function 100% the tube must be clear of gunk - clean with kero once a year. And - your filler cap must also be clean. Mine have a built in mesh filter to clean the air that flows through. Some tappet covers also have vent holes in them, though im not convinced they are of any use
