  5. So I figured instead of making a new thread I'd carry this one on. After selling the Crown and Pajero I've been looking out for a roadgoing landy. I had a pretty broad description as to what I was after but so many just weren't ticking the right boxes on the tard until this gem popped up last week in New Plymouth. Fate would have it that we were headed up those ways for a pissup so I organised a viewing and bought her on the spot! Today me and Ben shot up to New Plymouth today and hauled him home. This one's a grubby '69 S2A 109" Stationwagon running a lovely Holden 186 of bum plundering doom!! From what I can tell it was a factory 2600cc 6cyl model so the conversion is a lot tidier to carry out than in a 4cyl model. The guy I got it from bought it form the Tauranga District council as an abandoned vehicle at the start of this year. She's dereg but in pretty good nick so I'm a happy lad. He's spent quite a few bob on roof and door seals, new door tops, changed out all the oils and shit, and tidied the interior up quite a bit. He's chucked a new gearknob set at it and new gear lever boots and all the shit that people never get around to doing so I'm already ahead of the eight ball. Goes pretty good but is fiercly out of tune (lovely full throttle Holden red engine detonation due to staleish fuel and a poorly timed up dizzy I reckon) and the brakes are pulling all over the place so they need a good adjust up and bleed. Plans are to re-reg, sort out a few bits and bobs and just bomb the hell out of it all summer (hopefully). I'm actually not that well placed to have bought this at the moment with different things taking up all my spare time at the moment but I'll get straight onto it at the start of October! More pics next time I see it in daylight! Discuss! //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38706-campylobacters-campylandrover/
  6. hmmm yeah the hess bodies were alloy frame too apparently though. they had some of those bodies on older b58 based trolley buses in welly that got converted back to diesel by newlands coach and they are mean apparently. edit: these ones. http://mw2.google.com/mw-panoramio/photos/medium/17707174.jpg b58 engine = horizontal 6 cyl turbz dry sump ciggy butt too
  7. hah, amazing what you can learn and cofirm when you actually read the listing too eh? I reckon for an extra 3g, and a little extra driving but less ferry worries, then they should buy this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/buses/36-45-seats/auction-920463000.htm or this http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/buses/26-35-seats/auction-920168573.htm MAN SL200/202 are much easier to get bits for, as are (slightly less so) Merc O305s. they're also really cheap Volvo B10Ms and B58s ex Mana/Newlands coaches are good one to look out for too (in citybus format) usually fitted with an allison trans and the bits are easy and cheap to get for them. BOOM
  8. bristol hess eww! I probably wouldn't buy one of those but if i was, I'd probably get them at least to take it for a VTNZ vehicle condition assessment thing. you can't get many bits for these anymore, but the bodies were usually fully aluminium from what I recall?
  9. Teyarda genuine thermostats are pretty well priced. Tridon ones are crap at the moment for realz. defo get radiator checked out - an often overlooked part of a BHG Job. Could've been the root cause! Alledgedly Toyota temperature gauges are super un-sensitive. heaps of 4wd dicks add a resistor pack to make the whole thing more senstive apparently. Yours may be a bit early for it to be relevant but it's an interesting thought nonetheless. http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/tempgauge.htm may help to know something's actually going on before it gets proper dodgey. edit - for some reason that link comes up dead for me now but then it worked again? God knows.
  10. awww yeeee. interested to see how this works out.
  11. keep an eye out. some vectra/astras have a similar getup. and citroen saxos
  12. smack a hilux/hiace p/s pump where the a/c pump would usually be. I say hilux/hiace coz heaps of 4wd rally guys run them and they can be mucked with easily. they're not too hard to get hold of, have a remote reservoir and seem to be fairly reliable in that application so should run a small tipper reasonably ok. lots of dudes in the 4wd circles use them to run full hydro front steering and a steering ram on the rear. often at super low and high revs, and they require high speed reactions so it's much more demand than a tipper would ever be, are you wanting it to be tipping just so you can have a spot to chuck ya spare wheel that's not on the deck itself? that's how i read your post? if so, perhaps a low profile roofrack to chuck it up on would be the go? not ideal if you get a puncture and have a load that you need to tip off the deck to get at the spare
  13. You mad bugger!!!! pics plz! link to build //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/48740-bigts-65ish-anglebox-racer-insanity/

  15. smack some castrol vmx80 in there if you CBF with redline or something. my pajero was pooey when cold as it was meant to run 75w85 or some wog shit but i just ran 80w90 in it. coz I'm a jew and got free 80w90 from work, I jsut put up with slow shifting when cold. no sweat
  16. nice! so subaru leone/early legacy watercooled engine? cute sister
  17. yeah nah if I was me i wouldn't think it's a carb problem. you have two of them and hopefully a fuel filter so surely it wouldn't just get the aids that quickly. will it fire up now? what happens if you pop the fuel cap off? my thoughts is closed up points and/or fucked condensor.
  18. YOU GOTTA PARTY HARDER MAYNNNEEE.. /steal rogers Laser wagz for the weekend FTW
  19. put a dome tent up inside shed for max pooey weather stability.
