  1. what is the difference between black top and silver top? I'v never actually actually bothered to think about it.. Nice progress btw
  2. Actually.. That's exactly right. And something I never thought of. Shit
  3. haha I'm sure you know about the Jeen's bug that was built and sold by Marco a while back ? http://fueltank.cc/blog/1974-jeans-beetle Thing is dope. Love the cosmic rims. Thats what id build if I find another late model standard
  4. This is just a chat question not i'm doing it tomorrow kinda deal. We have seen VW bug's with narrowed front ends. You can take a abritory inch or 2 or you can go full bat shit crazy 10-14" Narrow. As far as you can before the Shock mounts rub the body. Where do we with our rules draw the line? IS there a % of track front to back that you must stay within ? Or is it just a matter of judgement on the certifier ? cheers Scott.
  5. back when I was a lad a apprenticeship at a Mazda dealer was highly prized because "you might get to work on rotors" I think there was 1 old bloke who know a bit about them everyone else just did boring Mazda stuff. Workshop was quiet then. I drive past and look in the workshop and it looks full sweat shop spec. With all the common dealer traits. How many can you get threw the doors today kind of deal. But..... I would like to go to the tool room and uplift a few Mazda spec tools.. But it's probs nothing you can't buy of the shelf from other tool makers. meh #shityarn
  6. A lot of the falcons utes have a skeletal tub bottom with a nice plastic liner. can't find picture to support statement.....
  7. 2200 KG Ute....!!! mate... time for new weigh scales surely ?
  8. if not nozzles and wipers..... rain-x my good man. if it's good enough for aircraft then it's overkill for me.
  9. Just had a flash back It was sounding exactly like the seconds before when your car blows up from damage in GTA2 game (birds eye one)
  10. actually you nailed it. no 4th speed no lock up here. I poor old jatco 3 speed has the toque converter power of a hairy goat. I guess the only thing left is to know the weight of your fine vehicle?
  11. Using the A/C and the loud pedal I averaged 12l/100km thats not bad.... my 2.6 datto is about the same economy.
  12. french pass? err... maybe not.
  13. Actually He gave me a full run down of the coating on the liner walls.... or some such.. I don't actually remember. Had a lot of trouble on cold start after about 1 year of running. The only way to get it to go was to pull all plugs out (took fuking ages ) and clean them out re start.. It was running real fat and was wet wet wet. But the liners were allways being chatted about as being the best thing since ever made.. But then a quick google and I read this.. " Nikasil coating and caused engine failures. Jaguar replaced affected engines, and has used conventional cast-iron linings ever since." sounds gravy.. can't wait to pick up that phone call when it packs up.
  14. @Thousand Dollar Supercar you know what i'v really enjoyed the build fred on your car. I'v chortaled a lot. Thanks. I have nothing but utter disdain for Jag's. I think since when I was at school watching Nelson's only high power accountant drop off his son to Nayland College (state school ) every day in a lovely v12 burgundy XJS right to the school gate as if some sort of sick pantomime of how good life can actually be if your drive the right vehicle.... the career just follows from the choice of car ownership I guess? Secondly I did some work to cram a new school V8 jag motor into a Series 1 XJ. I'm still nauseous from a issues we had trying to get that car threw cert. The guy who owns it had built his own aircraft. So you can but imagine the witchcraft that had to be involved when making the fuel pump and filter systems for the twin tanks. A throw switch for Right or Left tank select and the ability to pump tanks for even weight distribution. Because a balance hose would never be the same while inverted in the ditch I guess?
  15. troll Limmo is actually a good thing. They hang tuff. If it's working id expect it will stay working for a long long time. They actually work very well. I dear say if you don't need the wheel flex you wont need lockers either but they will never do any harm in a big mud bog. Iv installed a lot of ARB air lockers the most sketch part is deciding where to drill the housing. But things have changed Electric lockers came in and I left the 4x4 industry . There is some very good stuff for patrol out there. If you need it if you look on the ozzy market. A good upgrade for the future could be GU axels they are a tad wider in track than the GQ. Just a thought.
  16. blacks has a fairly good odd bolt stockest they use. metric fine 14mm left hand thread stuff that I needed.
  17. When I worked for a 4x4 shop in ozz we had a flex ramp set up and it was a real good gauge of how things are working on before and after repairs/builds. Can make changes and re index the vehicle as many times as you like. A perfect 100 score is hard to hit but a lot of the hang up is on things like away bars if you have no disconnects. EDIT: flex ramp simple as fuck to build 1 ramp at a given incline angle.
  18. cool.. so cool The only idea I want to stick in your head is..... Patrol arms are really stiff they hang up on the pin end.. The eye style of a 80 series are much nicer I think from off road point of view.
  19. This is a not so amazing up date. (turn back now) After fixing the ignition getting the car going then have it die and burn a trigger out I replaced it put a tank of fuel threw it around town. Today I drove over the Takaka hill ginger careful. No AA roadside assist. It's all in my head that it's going to not make it.. It glided threw 240K of solid driving without issue. Here It is at collingwood. I think that issue can be put to bed. The tyres still have 5mm tread I need to finish them before wraping the Superstars in a better choice of tyre. Thinking slightly stretched and lots lower in profile. What do you guys think ? 205/80 is way to big in the sidewall for the new rims ?
  20. nice KK I like what you got going on there. needs tow bar If I didn't have a work vehicle id be seriously in deep thought about what i'm reading/seeing
  21. can do it for sure. @Ashkellybarr Just not Plastic... at least anodized there are plenty of non speed flow style out there
  22. they are used all the time to stop vapor going into wire conduit places like underground mines and in the fuel industry. But id never get one wet with fuel they just are not that sort of thing.
