  1. I have put this steering into my Datsun Cedric as the steering box had to go due to the engine swap. The electric booster came from a Suzuki swift. It was pretty easy. Make sure you get the control box which is bolted to the column, then you just need a small circuit which tricks it into running. It needs a speed input and rpm input but the circuit board does that plus gives you adjustment for how much assist you want. You can buy it from the UK as they fit them to lots of rally cars there.
  2. couple of interior pics. original as. aftermarket 70's tacho kind of ruins the mint dash, but sweet 8 track player makes and selection of terrible 80's tapes makes up for it! engine bay looks like every other cedric it was sunny last weekend so went for a cruise needs the front right brakes adjusted and thats about it
  3. it was, now its been raining for 3 months its all fucking mud Got some wood to line the wall from the plyguy. was pretty cheap. mostly cosmetic seconds. done about 75% of this end. Just need another stud to attach it to, and wire up the switchboard. and find my motorvation. i left it out in the rain somewhere? also partially built some shelves. it was easy cos the wall was half my shelves already built. couple lengths of 4x2 and some other random offcuts, plus some more seconds ply to line them. They are 700mm apart so im thinking of making some levels in between the current ones starting to fill up...
  4. some creepy old ones. ill dig them out later this week
  5. heres one with one leaf flipped and a couple coils off the front rb30det bolts in...
  6. Talk about i should keep this stock as a rock //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/50035-fletchs-1970-datsun-cedric-super-six/#entry1584904
  7. Finally got this sorted so i thought i better put some photos up. Some history first, I saw some photos on face book somebody took of random cars at kumeu hotrod show. One of them was of this car. I got hold of my bro Ray (ja1lb8) as his family is always at the show. His old man was there and had already spotted the car and put an offer on it on our behalf knowing one of us would have it. It belonged to an old lady who was going into a home and her family was selling off all her old shit to pay for it. The car was bought new by her husband in 1970 in OZ, and they bought it here in 74 when they moved to nz. The husband died a few years later and she kept driving it to the shops in west auckland once a week ever since. It also came with a folder of invoices for the last 40 years of ownership. Lets just say she was taken for a bit of a ride by a certain west auckland nissan dearler with servicing costs and repairs for wof's. Could have bought a few of them for what she has spent over the years. A month ago i finally picked it up from Ray as it took me a while to obtain permission from the boss, (insiders would argue that i never actually got permission, but it was too late...). When i went to change the ownership, it came up as stolen. The brother of the old lady wanted it and had reported it stolen to try and get it back. The next week as i tried to get to the bottom of the story i stripped it in case i had to give it back. The cops cancelled the stolen car notice as it was just sour grapes. Then on the weekend i went to get a wof and it had no vin number in the system. Here we go again, turns out it has never been in the system, and only now its fully computerised, they could not issue me a wof. Thanks to the GC's at VTNZ new plymouth it was sorted monday and now its legit! tl;dr photos L24, 3 speed column change. Drums all round. Has had a respray at some stage. Will put some photos up of the interior in a few days. Also came with an 8 track and some sweet old tapes Discussion //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/50036-fletchs-1970-datsun-cedric-super-six/
  8. Seen failed coils on this age merc. Also blocked solid cat.
  9. 10 years ago a few mates put a 2tg head on a 3tgte. They didn't even take the motor out. Just sanded the top of the block clean, chucked a new head gasket on and bolted the 2tg head on. t3 from a single turbo 300zx and it was a weapon.
  10. Found my one. Probably only goes down to 12.4mm So no good? I'll post it up if it will do? I bought it from speedway engineering in the us.
  11. ill have a look tomorrow night. I did have one but its possible i lent it to somebody. or not and its still in or near my toolbox.
  12. there is a couple of places in oz that can buff out glass scratches. Im sure somebody in NZ would do it. Or you can watch the youtube vids of it and buy the stuff to do it yourself
  13. Cheers man, ill let you know when im planning to move the car. I had talked myself out of painting the floor due to cost but i just saw bart's floor and i want Anyway, where was i... I made these perfect rebates in the floor for the doors so the rain would not get blown in However, i did not take into account the thickness of the lip on the bottom of the door. fuck. A bit of head scratching and discussion over many beers and the answer was obvious. Flip the tracks around Just needed a few blocks of wood to pack out the mounting brackets. Next mission was a trench for the power cable and while i was at it, water pipes too. Power cable was 75m long, 600mm deep, and about another 130m of 300mm deep for water pipes. a chain trencher is an awesome tool, sooo much better than the shovel. Its also great at finding things you never knew were buried. Like my neighbours water pipes, and various electric fence cables About 3 hours trenching, works out to 9 hours of back filling The left over concrete was poured into a pad at the end of the shed to make a small shelter for my water pump and also compressor to keep the noise as far away from her indoors as possible Next up was finishing the trench by hand. I found 3 downpipes, 2 water pipes, 1 power cable, and 2 electric fence cables here. wont be doing that again. I also ripped out the 20 year old downpipes as they had a good build up of dust, leaves, dead birds etc. I replaced them with a screen thingy and also a first flush diverter that i have half ifnished Thats about as far as i have got. Its been raining here after work for a while. Next job is -install the power cable at both ends -build a pump shed -do some more plumbing -wire up the shed -build some shelving -level the ground out front and pour about 80m2 more concrete -work on some cars. maybe. next year?
  14. nice work, looks like it will be awesome. Im keen to see all the bits you use as i have a similar thing at home
  15. i cant work a computer well enough to model all the suspension. I made some steering arms out of a bit of thin box steel that were a bit of a guess, but had the correct ackerman. then bought a cheap laser pointer from somewhere, attached it to the hub face, took out the spring, and lifted the suspension up and down. Get someone to mark the line on the wall as it goes up and down, bit of trigonometry and you have the angle. you want it to be vertical meaning no toe change. if your cunning, you will put a mirror on the wall, and a plate on the hub, then your twice as accurate and can do it with no helper Then you change the steering arm length, height, rack height, pivot point etc. one day it will work out and then measure up and machine out of steel
  16. yea check for crud under the rocker cover, they get coked up bad and chew out the cams if the oil has not been regularly changed. also, the timing chain hits the guard between the cam pulleys when the tensioner gets fucked and makes it rattle bad on startup. if you notice the chain is a bit slack, and it has a bit of a rattle on startup only, knock him down on price and then replace the cam chain tensioner for $50 and your golden
  17. Yea good idea. I'm on call this week. anytime after is good. have you got a 4wd? I have another datto I need to drag from one shed to the new one.
  18. Done some more work and then 7am this morning
  19. What ecu are you running? I'm 95% sure that on 100% of aftermarket ecu's you hook up your tps Then set it at zero then mash the pedal and set it at 100%. Then it does not matter what ratio of mover it has relative to the actual butterfly opening. It is good to have as much sensor movement as you can for better resolution.
  20. My mate had the same chip burner. It had a 21 kw wetback in it! He heated a 3 bedroom house near the snow line on mt taranaki in the winter easy.
