Here is my 1970 VG Valiant Regal Safari Wagon I scored this off my missus cousin, he dailyed it for a couple of years then parked up for a year or so because the front calipers clapped out & he couldn't fix them for various reasons. I told him I wanted it. He Laughed. Finally one day he called and said "come pick it up bro" SWEET JESUS! I rolled straight out there with a spare battery n 20L of premium fuel & Boom! she lives. 245ci of Aussie Deadlyness Drove it around the paddock n decided the rear breaks were sweet enough for a slow 3km voyage home! Success! with some remedial internetting skills i found that VG Front Calipers were shit & fitting later model VH/VJ calipers are the go. Called a mate in the bustling metropolis of Matata and two VJ units were swapped for a box of Waikato! A quick call to the local BNT had a caliper kit & new break pads on the way. Too easy. Next was a call to aussie to find Auto Blinds/Venetians. Most places wanted the earth to ship these to NZ I finally found Autocables.com.au & I rang the Chap there, NO Worries Mayte, $50 to get 'em to ya. SOLD TO THE BLACK MAN IN THE TAN HAT! Sweet. I haven't done much more too it since then apart from fix the googly eye looking headlights, they have a spacer in the headlamp bucket that can be removed & allows the headlamp to sit in nice & recessed like. Scored a WOF & we have been using it as a sweet cruiser n camper wag on occasion for the last couple of years plans for 2015 are drop spindles, reset leaves & new TWL 7" bands to fit on the valiant centres (standard rims are 5" wide). Sweet Wag Bro, I have used Pentastar parts in aus to get NOS & repro parts. http://www.pentastarparts.com.au/store/ hemi performance seemed more expensive for most parts. And I tracked down the little machine shop in Victoria that supplies both of these crowds with their 2" drop spindles, save yourself $300+ on drop spindles! -

Roof Chops are usually YUCK, too easy to fuck up, too muck height taken out, proportions messed up... I for one like the standard roofline/height of these beasts.

Sweet score man. My Father-in-law has one of these. Its a 4 door '51 chev running a 383 SBC, 4 link rear end, Ford 9inch with LSD and a Jag front end with powersteering. I can scope you some pics if you want reference, Might be a good source of old timey knowledge? Also I think the Roof looks alright. leave it alone and make the car look like this....
