  2. So I just got photoshop and figured Id have a play tonight seeing as currently the lights in the garage dont work and came up with this. Filled in the side windows, and bought it down abit. I have acquired springs and blocks for this, that will be fitted in the next few weeks. Photoshops so much easier than real life
  3. Well these wheels are meant for my Panel Van, but I just got tires mounted on them today and couldn't help but try them on this. HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES! HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES! HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES! HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES!HUNDRED SPOKES! It definitely looks way better on smaller tyres in my opinion. but they are for the van.... hurl abuse at me here ---> //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/36140-shakotoms-84-vk-mayte/page-4
  4. What is defined as a significant increase in power? I have increased the power for my VK from 54kw (Starfire) to 114kw (RB30) (Wikipedia KW spec LoLzz) so yes that is a 'significant' increase in that respect but as the rb30 was factory in a VL (pretty much the same as VK) and the motors stock, it's not really a significant increase for the body? So hoop required or nah? Starting to get car ready for cert so Yee And that bit about #43? Fs010. It's mostly a bolt in swap with all factory components bar the gearbox xmembers which is a homemade affair. So that means its not under that umbrella?
  5. Mate, I've got a steering wheel off one of these. $40? It's fairly mint
  6. We could start a trend of four wheel drives that are too clean/shiny to get used off road
  7. I think it's about time I get a sticker. Is it Chris I see for them?
  8. Spent pretty much every night last week sanding the body down, straightening dents and getting it to a point I was happy with it so I could prime it. Then spent today priming it inside and out. unfortunately now its got primer on it, its shown some areas that will need further attention, but hey its good from a far! (but far from good) Still for the first car Ive laid primer on I dont think its too bad. Off to the paint shop next week to buy a new spray gun and look at colour charts. Am thinking about painting it similar to the hotwheels Hilux a few posts up at present....
  9. Hey guys. Now I figure it's about time I start getting this ready to get a cert so it's legal. I think the later model commodore suspension swap is gonna be too much of a mission to get the camber back to within cert tolerances even with adj tophats because the LCA's are so flamin long. I can still sort the brake upgrade onto vk struts so that's sweet But here lies where I need your help! Making coilovers. Plan is to shorten strut body and weld on threaded platform. (Like the coilover guide in tech articles) I've read that, and read most of the build threads on here, so I've go ta basic idea. But how do you know what height to weld the platform at/ what length shocks to choose ect? Thing is at the height I'm at now, I have hardly any travel till I hit bumpstops on standard blown shocks and I would like to go lower. So any advice? Thanks
  10. Anyone got a 54mm holesaw or close to that I could borrow? Need to cut a hole to pass wiring grommet through because I forgot to when repairing panel. Doh
  11. Am currently working on attaching the radiator support. Ive sort of decided that it is a million times easier to pull motor and box out as one and split on the floor than fight with a 4wd gearbox on a jack on my back underneath it. As you can imagine, the hilux engine bay is quite short so that wont work. As I have removed the radiator support for replacement, I thought why not make it removable? So Im working on aligning it and am going to replace all the spot welds with nuts and bolts. Should be just as strong as the factory spot welds. Only thing i can see is that it may be a moisture trap/rattle (excuse potato Iphone camera and mismatched nuts/bolts. am going to get shiny matching ones but am just dummying up for now.) I cant see it being a WOF/Cert issue because if I crash into someone, they should go under it (chassis is above bonnet of my commodore) plus it shouldnt be seen under guards. opinions/criticism? ---> //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/40381-shakotoms-1985-toyota-hilux/
  12. Gah. That's pretty much my dream car right there. I pine for those Porsches
  13. Just run the 4 cylinder one. It should be sweet. Just keep an eye on the temp gauge once it's all together. I have no clue as to what core it is though.
  14. I spent this entire weekend between panelbeaters on Van, car parts shops, and the garage on this thing. Today was ment to be spent going on a facebook cruise meet in my mates MX-5 with him, but that was cancelled due to lack of people. I was sort of keen to start prep for paint on this as a learning curve for my Van. So went to bunnings and bought a cheap orbital sander, some sanding paper, and some flap discs for the grinder. Smoothed out and finished most of the welds from the rust repairs. gave most of the cab a rub down with the sander. tried to mask of windscreen. got fed up with it. pulled it out in one piece (victory). Lifted cab off chassis and pushed that out side Man the chassis filthy right now. Its so thick with dust and sanded off paint. Cab was flipped onto its back, and the underside was prepped to get it ready to prime it - I had cleaned it off back in march to paint it then but never got around to it. Primed the underside, under guards and most of the engine bay. Then left that to dry and came back later and gave it a couple of coats of the black paint I had left over from the chassis. all the grey you see is this seam sealer. I purchased this off the Wurth rep that comes through work because he said it was good stuff and cut me a mean deal on it.I resealed where all the factory sealer was that I removed and over the welds/patches. It is really good stuff, and has good coverage. but it is brush on and is horrible to spread and smooth out so unfortunately doesnt really look the tidyest. So next time I think im going to get the stuff that goes in a caulking gun as from previous experiences, it comes up a lot nicer. Once that was dry, I gave it another couple of coats of black which made it look alot better. And this. I sprayed this all over it too, Its rubberized stone guard. Hopefully should help protect underneath and minimise chances of stonechips ect. Unfortunetly I ran out of stuff halfway through so off on Monday to buy more. Close up of the stone guard and sealer on the underside. Looks really good. Once I get more of that ill finish underneath/wheelwells/enginebay then spray it all black again. All this work for something thats going to get covered in mud and dirt Ive decided on a colour for the exterior so need to get to a paint shop to price that up. Im pretty sure the underside will stay black, But should I do a black or body colour engine bay? Also, I think I need a new spray gun. The old one my Grandfather gave me is a great gun and mint for spraying primer, but seems to spray other paints a bit patchy and uneven so I think its a bit worn out. Any recommendations from you panel guys out there? Gravity fed or nah? I dont want to spend heaps, but dont want something Id get a crappy finish out of either. help me here ://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/40381-shakotoms-1985-toyota-hilux/ Thanks Disclamer *Im only slightly awkward, and I do have a social life. Im not a complete hermit/freak. :)
  15. Jealous of the suitcase. I want one for the back of my van
  16. Chasing Water leaks. I had a long story about this typed out but computer glitched so heres the abridged version. left van out in the rain, water leaked down through A-pillar onto floor. Knew there was rust under dash. stripped dash. MEH drove van to panel beaters. died halfway. issue with carb because choke cable removed. cableties fixed it! At panel beaters removed paint from top of suspect area. Why do people use filler to fix problems?!?!?!! cut cut. gah. removed bonnet guards and doors to assess properly aaaannnnnd Decided we' d better remove the windscreen to get it done right as that whole corner was filler YAY METAL! Cat approves! Have decided to go buy some flap discs/decent sander and have a good poke around before going back in a few weeks to have to roof vent done so if theres anything else that needs attention and theres patch panels avaliable I can buy them to speed the process up. And the side windows opinions on wether to put them back in and tint them, or panel them? They dont appear to be a factory window set up so are sort of unique. I like them, but I also like the solid sides too. VS EDIT: I did reassemble it and drive it home that night! It is going to stay mobile! the windscreen was just taped in while I prep and respray the dash before re installing it
  17. Now, this is a story all about how My car got fixed-to get out of town and I'd like to take a minute Just sit right there I'll tell you how I made it to palmy from all the way up here Right, now my attempt at being the 'Fresh Prince' is over lets get onto it. A week before Palmy Swapmeat, I decided that the Commodore was going to be my method of transport for the weekend. This story starts in saturday and goes like this. I bought a new exhaust ages ago that consisted of extractors to a large pipe to two mufflers off a guy on Instagram of all places. The previous exhaust which was a cut up mix of VL log manifold and down pipe to VK center section to VL rear section, Developed a bad rattle between 2000-3500rpm and leaked heaps. the new exhaust was all one piece so I had to lower the subframe and drop one side off the diff out as I refused to cut it. YAY EXTRACTORS! much power, many fast, very wow The next part of preparation was to get the heater system/blower fan working. So on Sunday I pulled the dash out and plumbed up all the vacuum lines for the actuators and built one good switch out if three broken ones. So I had speed 3 and 4 on the fans and vents all working! I went out to lunch amongst this with Kateums and stumbled across a mispriced head-unit ($50 cheaper than the marked price YAY!) so was convinced to buy that (after owning the car for three years and wanting a stereo the whole time) and four speakers. Turns out Id have to wire that in from scratch, and cut holes in doors for speakers and figure out how to mount the head-unit. Extended wires to wiper switch and temporarily (read permanently) mounted that. Then sorted a little center storage compartment to finish below the dash for now. you can see below: Wiper switch right hand air vent. Temp gauge in compartment under dash. All light up nice and bright so super easy to see at night too Got car back together by Thursday morning, spent thursday getting gas, checking fluids, sorting tools, packing bag ect and Friday morning met at the top of the Bombays with a bunch of members from Manukau Road & Custom to cruise down to Palmy. Was probably the best drive ive had in a while. Big convoy and a nice spirited back road drive down. Stopped in Waiouru for gas/food. One of the cars in the convoy developed a slight miss just after waiouru (plug lead popped off) and another had a tire delaminate just before bulls. Spare didn't match due to other Pontiac they owned being american built not Canadian. run around to a local tyre shop at 4pm on Friday for tires to be swapped between rims. back on and through to Palmy. Went to swapmeat, bought a few things. Went to Kruzin Kustoms for a look. Attended OldSchool Saturday night shenanigans. Crappy Iphone night photo with Ogres Coon Father made us leave at 9am on sunday to head home. Went home via the Desert road. went exploring on the Tuikino mountain road but had to turn around after crossing a few smaller puddles before coming to this creek that was too soft to drive through and knocking my bumper off once Got car home and tucked it up in the garage for a well deserved rest. 1300km over 3 days and she preformed flawlessy. and Its absolutley filthy. Suppose ill give her a wash on the weekend
