  1. Yeah it works awesome. I scored a 6 foot whip from an old dude. It has a gutter mount that folds down, so makes it great for getting in the garage. It was super handy at Hawkes Boes for convoying and 'your mum' jokes.

    Thermostats

It is posible you have a air pocket under the themostat. Is there a heater hose or similar higher than the thermostat to let the air out as you put the coolant in? Otherwise try taking out the thermostat, fill to thermostat level, install thermostat, fill to top. Then just let it idle with cap off till no more bubbles come to the top
  3. Some more stolen Hawkes Boes pics. This time from Beaver who was riding along in the wag.
  4. I'd imagine it will when the motor goes back in.
  5. Some stolen pics from Hawkes Boes Mk VI Apparently there are only compact cars in Havelock North. pic by k-trips One by kicker at camp
  6. Well the mighty Sportwagon made it to Hawkes Boes and back. It was great to have some company on the road trip. Cheers to Steelies, Beaver, and their lady fiends for helping slam the wag with their gear. The rear bump stops and exhaust got a good work out.
  7. I got them off trade me. Cost about $80 IIRC. I have seen the spider ones on there for about $250.
  8. This. So many monkeys ring up and say "got a job bro?" I think it is just so they can tell their Mum they looked for a job.
  9. Can you move / adjust the level sensors at each corner?
  10. That sounds like a plan. I guestermate the good ship buick will be in woodville around 10:30 - 11:00
  11. November meet deets: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/40828-welly-monthly-meet-nov-21st-7pm-plimmerton/
  12. Glad to here you have a Seedy solution to your problem.
  13. Looking mean bro. How bad are the hilux calipers?
  14. Yes block off the vacuum hose to set base timing. The timing jumps up when you hook it back to the dizzy because you have max vacuum at idle (throttles closed) Some carbs have a distributor vacuum port that has nothing at idle to eliminate hard starting due to heaps of advance. You wont have that option with bike carbs of course. I dunno what the OG datto setup was. Beaten by the guru.
  15. Last months beach meet was great, so rinse and repeat at a new location. For November we will meet at Plimmerton beach, just after the Plimmerton Boating Club opposite 62 Moana Road at 7pm. https://www.google.co.nz/maps?q=62+Moana+Road,+Porirua&hl=en&ll=-41.072946,174.855738&spn=0.010078,0.021136&sll=-41.073202,174.855724&sspn=0.324563,0.676346&oq=62+moana+road&hnear=62+Moana+Rd,+Plimmerton,+Porirua+5026&t=m&z=16 Bring some Takeaways, there are plenty to choose from on Mana Esplanade, or if you prefer burning meat I will bring my little BBQ. If the weather is rubbish we will meet at the old faithfull Wholly Pizza, Thorndon. We will make the decision earlier in the day. The usual reminders: You are welcome to invite a few mates, but please note you are 100% responsible for their behaviour. No stupid driving. No doubt the locals will be keeping an eye on us. If you want a drink then take your empties with you, and all other rubbish. Discuss in the usual place: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/33331-wellington-monthly-meet-7pm-3rd-thursday-of-the-month-discussion/page-48
  16. I wouldn't put E10 fuel in anything with a carb. It absorbs moisture and eats rubber.
  17. ON THE ROAD AGAIN, AGAIN! Two transmissions have become one. The guts of my original trans are now in the trade me casing. Zane the transmission man said my original internals were in pretty good nick. He had to replace the torque converter bush and the accumulator spring. He cleaned out the valve body and chucked in some new gaskets. The torque converter that came with the TM trans also turned out to be no good because someone has ground down the pilot that goes into the back of the crankshaft. Zane flushed out my original TC and that is back in use. I am lucky that my boss, Tony, lets me use the workshop on the weekend. A hoist and trans jack make this job so much easier. Huge thanks to Zane at Automatic Transmission Repairs Ltd. Without his help I would not be able to make Hawkes Boes. If you ever need help with an auto go see him at 4A Freshfield Place, Plimmerton.
  18. Yeah it would be cool do my own stuff in work time but it doesn't work that way. I have the rebuilt trans back so tomorrows plan is chuck it in and skids on. Zane at Automatic Transmission Repairs Ltd is my hero. He put aside other work to get my shit sorted and then gave my a super cheap price.
  19. I have pulled the trade me dud trans out of the Buick and dropped it off to the transmission shop with my old cracked trans. The internals of the original mostly look sweet. The clutches in the trade me trans look like this... You can see the friction material on the clutch rings has come away. There is some rust on the steel ring that has destroyed the bond. Looks like there has been water / moisture in the trans at some stage. So the guts out of my trans is going into the trade me casing. Hopefully I can get it back tomorrow and put it back in on the weekend.
  20. Awesome turn out tonight. Cheers to everyone. Was great to see some new faces. Clint's AE85/86 is so super tidy and how is Mad Biz's Datto ute so slammed?
  21. If we convoy your fish n chips might get cold waiting for everyone. I will bring a little bbq if anyone prefers to burn cheese sizzlers over take aways .
