    The cruise the night before is a good giggle. You can also register for the show on Saturday to same time.

    It's one of the biggest car shows on the South Island. Usually around 800 -1000 cars. Always lots of stuff to look. It is mostly muscle/American/Hot Rods with a few other cool things around too.

    It’s pretty sweet. All the local Wanaka breweries are there and a few guest brewers too. Plus there is heaps of yummy foods.

    My dad had a 4 door 59 Cadillac Fleetwood. It was dark blue with a bit of patina (before patina was cool) and everyone always asked him when he was going to paint it pink. Also those 390 motors when rebuilt put out some serious torque. And sound lush with the right exhaust. I have fond memories of sitting at 100km and hour on the motorway and some young guys over took us in a FXGT on the motor way doing a bout 120km. Dad just floored it and flew past them at 100 miles an hour. They fucking lol’d and looked a bit surprised. Ah, the memories.

    I think I have mentioned this before but... When Colin from protector insurance original came up with the idea they though it would be nice if they got 30-40 cars. They never dreamed that the average would be 700 and on some days nearly 1000. Managing that many cars became stressful and a H&S nightmare. Not to mention the tale backs on the motorways. So by splitting it up it also changes it up. It means that the people who were turned away from the Shore can go to Hampton and it makes the Shore event more manageable. 400 cars at the Smales event is perfect. It also stops it getting stale and will eventually make both events better. Although the Tickford Barry’s thought it was nice to park up next to other cars there were always going to be people who thought they didn’t deserve to be there. And although I like Mustangs as much as the next OSer...
