Grinding noise from brake

My left front brake started making an awful grinding noise. There's heaps of meat on the pads so I guess there must be something stuck in there.

Is there a hack for this, or am I going to have to pull the shoes off?

If is a stone you can usually reverse and it finds it's way out

Or

Find an open bit of road. Floor it and stab the brakes hard repeatedly. Repeat until the noise goes away

Or pull it apart and have a look, might be something a bit more serious.

ensuring it is not a wheelbearing issue, first

Whip the wheel off and put your eyeballs on it.

Turned out the inside pad was worn to the backing plate on that wheel so it looked OK through the rim and no squealing because the wire is on the outside pad.

I don't know why, the caliper wasn't stuck, the rotor was ok. Maybe just a bad pad. Sorted now.
