shizzl
Finished bolting in the fishnet recaros this morning while waiting on materials to arrive. also picked up some wedge lock washers for the brake discs. I don’t know why, but the hunter brake hoses fit the escort calipers, even though the internet says Theyr different threads. So what if Theyr cross threaded right
Popular Post shizzl
Brakes are on!!!!! hoses and lines connected. have ordered some pads from palmside for “fast road car/high performance “. once they arrive I can fit them and bleed it all up. Check for leaks, apply electrical tape and cable ties, walk away. also altered the gear stick angle for a more rearward position. Easier to reach 1st now. post cert I will get new carpets fitted. next on the list to do: shifter hole cover and boot, adjust rear brake shoes, bolt check. Wait for engine to be built. Add in the extra resonator I have. Modify the centre console for the new shifter hole shitchea!!!
Popular Post shizzl
Someone is on a roll.. having a deadline kind of creates some much needed motivation. pulled the rear drums off to inspect the brakes. So minty fresh in there, bone dry, lots of meat on the shoes, drums looked clean as. chucked the guard roller on and pushed the lip up slightly just for a little extra clearance. then went about degreasing as much as I could off the diff, it was 20mm deep in some spots. 50 years of oil leaking 4 banger will do that. Checked the diff oil, she’s good. then I tripped over the swaybar, dang I need to sort that out too. so I knocked that off the list, was actually simple and only a 30min job once I worked out a plan. this is actually getting me motivated to start on the other hunter once this is on the road
Popular Post shizzl
Because we’re on a roll The mintex pads arrived from palmside. chucked them in along with the new calliper bolt retainer lock thingys. bled it up when the mrs arrived. No leaks, epic pedal feel. then I decided to swap out the oldschool wheel nuts for the crusty chromes off the other car, just to see how it’ll look, I’ll replaced these with new ones at some stage. Also added in some centre caps I picked up ages ago. it really finishes it off I reckon. got the invoice for the engine parts, so once those arrive it’s rebuild time. engine is getting all new seals, springs, rotor bearings, unbreakable apex seals, devconned water jackets for the j porting, port matched intake, tidied exhaust ports. Balanced rotating assembly along with the lightened flywheel.
shizzl
Hunter meet hotwires, hotwires meet tyres, tyres meet hell muahahaha picked up the new tyres for the new rims. I’ve run these vigour formulas on the hunter for a few years now. I find them quite grippy, low road noise, and great price. so for these I went with a throwback size of 215/50/13, and with raised white letters. beastmode

Popular Post shizzl
A bit more skiving off was done today. moved everything around in the workshop. GTX is now on the hoist and back up and running. Started refitting carpets into the hunter, then the console. mocked up how I need to make a new centre plate for the console. then turned a golf ball into a gear knob haha. just having carpets and a console makes it look so much tidier. then I remembered I had a pair of used mk2 escort arches floating around. Taped them on for effect. actyal think they look alright. the moulding on the front piece fits perfect to the moulding on the hunter. the back section just ends abruptly. but it sits flat and really well.

Popular Post shizzl
Omg omg omg it’s baaaaack. this has some epic compression. need to get hold of some 20mm frost plugs to fill the coolant passages at the intake, torque the flywheel bolts then bang it back in.

Popular Post shizzl
Out with the engine to unfuck the gearbag. mozzle give it a clean. waterblasted the engine bay then biffed it in the naughty corner for it to think why it’s being such a c@@t im off to pick up another bag of gears after lunch, only costing 2 arms this time. atleast she still shines like a diamond in a goats arse
Popular Post shizzl
Picked up the new mystery gearbox. chucked it all back together this morning. then got a call from Chris @suspension tech, struts are ready. they look pretty swanky. only thing left to do now is do all the fluids and test the box out. And tune it
shizzl
After much faffing about trying to figure out this drive issue, I have made an executive decision to pull the 12a out, and put the 4age into this car. for a couple of reasons: 1:) my new neighbours will appreciate the 4age over the 12a 2:) should be happier on the standard diff 3:) the 12a is going into a revival vehicle worthy of such rowdiness 4:) I’m over the bloody thing at the moment so yeah, that’s the go I think 4 1
Popular Post shizzl
Ye old girl got another stable mate today. aka the new home of the 12a j the guy who delivered it from chch was a mx5 guru, and has schooled me in the ways of biffing the gtx motor into the race hunter.. he also put bad thoughts of a whole mx5 subframe in the front, maybe in the back too??? ute- 12a j port green hunter- 4age race hunter- gtx 1800 turbo, 6 speed box. I’ll start a build thread on the Ute once I start on it. Focus on greeny first of all
Popular Post shizzl
12a be gone, 4age be in. getting this fully mounted is simple work with a little bit of fizzinometry aided by the welder. driveshaft is in. Exhaust will be a short link pipe from the headers to the main zorst. Headers are 2” out, zorst is 2.5” with 2 resonators and dumpy. gearstick lines right up with where the 12a poked up, mint. parts I know I need for this now is: clutch slave and rod, fuel pump and surge tank, sandwhich plate- I have the wrong one with the fork and starter on the same side, then sorted the wiring side of it yay not. @Stu has made my loom super tidy, but I’ll get the sparky 2 doors down from my shop to wire it all in correctly. 12a is queued up to go into the Ute. It can wait till I figure what is causing the clutch issue. looked over the Ute briefly, only one small patch of rust to do in the passengers foot well. Tidy up a couple of pieces on the deck and it’s ready to paint haha. even had the MA 1600 running.
Popular Post shizzl
The hunter is now a dedicated 4age homie.. mounts are finished. Gearbox mount is a bit meh looking. May upgrade that prior to cert. It’s definitely strong enough and functional, just not overly good looking like myself haha. now that the mounts are done, I can rip the motor back out, remove the battery tray as it’s too close to the intake. then I can prep the motor for refitting (fit the water rail, clutch, put the engine on a stand so I can pull the sump and prime the oil pump etc, refit intake with injection etc). not too sure how these things go cooling wise, so I’ll be running a mint (near new) hunter radiator for now with a thermo fan and thermostatic switch. surprisingly the rx7 speedo cable fits right into the T50 box, so that’s already sorted.
shizzl
Yay, finally received the final piece to the puzzle. heater bypass pipe, and it’s not rotten. now I can fit this up and get the motor back in the hole for the last time. still need to source a T50 clutch slave and pin. haven’t done much on this due to waiting on bits. got some tinkering done on the Ute though, engine mounts tacked in place, gearbox position sorted. Ready for the gearbox crossmember to be done and measure for the driveshaft. I’ll need to go back to a banging bolt for the rear oil cooler fitting due to space. So hopefully I can get a -10 an bango fitting for this. got a radiator and oil cooler to pick up for it, slightly narrower than the one that was in the hunter. that rad will stay in there to cool the 4age. wiring on the Ute is simple as, just a matter of redirecting some wires, fuel system is already done, utes use the same pumps as a s1 rx7, factory facet. picked up some black d window rims for it, 17x8s. Should look alright, bloody heavy though. I’ll need to order new door frame and window rubbers for it. but hopefully the hunter will be up and running fairly soon.
shizzl
No pics. but engine and box is back in the hole, new water pipe is spot on. got the headers mated up to the exhaust that was on the 12a. headers are 4-1 and collect into a 2.5” collector, then into a flexi, through 2 resonators and out to the dumpy. I don’t want the raspy tinny 4age twang that these can give with big pipes. also got the starter bolted up and wired in, so now the entire passengers side of the bay is finished off. only have the intake to fit up, modify a couple of wires once I figure out which terminals go where on the alternator. btw the 12a loom is a perfect fit to the 4age for hook ups. even got the oil pressure and temp senders fitted and wired without modding anything from the 12a. even put oil in it and spun it over by hand. still need to fill the gearbox and fit the shifter. progress is progress
