oldnrusty
Follow instructions to the T. If anything going longer than it says for everything and don't do the minimum times for any steps. Save you alot of headaches.
shavenYak
Yup I'm waiting till I have a whole day free. Should be well worth it though.so much rusty gunk in the tank, and apparently these bikes are known for getting silt stuck in the carbs. Chris.QCR
Id spread it out over 3 to 4 days to be honest. Ive also used this for a couple bike tanks and a car tank and the longer you let everything do its thing the better the results
oldnrusty
yeah super super dry tank before the paint goes in is a big one, if it doesnt stick, like it has/hasnt on one hog we did, its a real fucken pain in the arse, start over again sort of shit. misses will understand
shavenYak
Started the tank cleaning process, just used marine clean so far with a chain in the tank. Rinsed out several times, even reheated the cleaner on the stove to reuse it. Man that stuff is caustic, my gloves broke and I'm regretting not replacing them. Hands now have cancer. Should I try to get more of that rusty scale off before I start with the metal ready? Stripped back the rear half of the bike to repaint the frame under years of battery acid leakage. Took me way too long to get the tail piece off. No more acid drippage with this little beauty
shavenYak
Is there a way to read which colour wires go into which hole on the 2x2 din connectors at the ignitor? (top right) Â
kicker
Not from that diagram unfortunately, how come there are two ignitors on the bike?
shavenYak
yeah it's really weird. Â I guess at some stage someone's added on a second set of connectors, Don't know to what purpose though? Â
kicker
Had a squizz at the diagrams and your pics, looks like they have set it up one for each coil. Could be that one of the ignitors is poked and switching back to a single item might work. When you first got spark what coil wire was attached to the coil you got spark on, black and yellow or white? They correspond to these wires  Which ever one was good keep the ignitor attached to it and uplug the other, then we just have to figure out what wires go to the unused pins on the 6 pin plug in order to test (the 4 pin plugs looks to be ok from what I can tell). shavenYak
Yeah it was the black and yellow one that worked. Â Will take a closer look at it in the weekend. Â In related news, a new pair of coils arrived from china today! Â Â
kicker
Noice  So have done a bit more investigation Based on other similar Suzuki ignitor pinouts the only wiring change you'll need to make is either stick the black and yellow coil wire where the red arrow is or the white coil wire where the yellow arrow is. Then you'll be back to a single ignitor. The middle terminals are unused on the 6 pin plug.   Plug your preferred ignitor in. Instructions for testing with multimeter. (4 pin plug is the signal generator lead wire coupler)   Also check your engine earth lead for corrosion etc.
shavenYak
Ahh you the man jezza!! I couldn't find that info anywhere!
Lord Gruntfuttock
Had a mate way back with a pulse. I recall these had issues with water getting into the lectrics, but looks like you've found that out. Cool 80s vibe.
EpochNZ
I know I'll be asked to leave the forum with this utterance, but..... Â I've always thought this bike's styling would really suit a conversion to run on volts.....In fact, if I can find one with a seized engine one day I might just be mad enough to try it. kicker
Electric bikes are cool, they can tootle pretty quick around the isle of man
shavenYak
Sweet so one of the igniters doesn't go and the other one happily switches both coils after I moved the black/yellow wire over to the other plug. Now I just need to make sure the two wires to the primary could are around the right way so firing order is correct? Then need to get longer screws to accomodate the new coil
kicker
These are wasted spark so you should be ok as long as the coils are going to the right plugs, one will probably have leads to 1 and 4 and the other will be 2 and 3 and firing order would be 1-3-2-
shavenYak
If the black/yellow and the white have been switched at the cdi the coils will be round the wrong way and will fire at the wrong time - or do both coils fire at once?
