vivaspeed
Cool car. Would be awesome to see it back together. Should be easy enough to get most parts (drop a big cheque in the direction of Rare Spares...). Is this also known as a TA Torana? These are the missing link between the HB Viva and the 6 cyl LC Torana... Might also pick your brain on BF Falcon problems.
thegreatestben
Oh 3.8... Would be cooler to see the newer 3.6 in there
steve7777
The newer 3.6 are shit in my opinion, replaced many stretched timing chains at my time working for Holden. Not many manuals about either I'd put a 4cyl back in it if there was a decent gm unit......
thegreatestben
They drive so much nicer though, what's a stretched timing chain every now and then to someone of your capability.
steve7777
Rare spares are bloody expensive, even trade price is horrendous. Trouble is no 6cyl torana stuff fits the front of it, so Vauxhall it is? Cool viva by the way! Whats the BF problem?
steve7777
thegreatestben Yeah they do drive nicer but 3k plus for a second hand engine? That you have to spend a grand on chains etc then 10+ hours.... i'll stick to the 3.8 for now! When I get sick of that maybe a 304??
dr.wylde
how about a 4.3 chev blazer v6 engine its a 350 chev with the front 2 cylinders lopped off it has chev bolt pattern too so you could use any turbo hydramatic auto behind it choice torrie by the way

steve7777
No I'm based in CHCH but thanks for the offer! Anyone out there have any spare 1800 viva front suspension with disc brakes they want to sell? Or similar that will fit? Got puny drums on the front at the moment! yoeddynz
Do you know shane at chch radiators? He has had 40-50 Hbs over the years and has done many engine swaps (Inc 3.8 supercharged commie v6). Go chat to him- he'll help with parts. What rear axle you planning?
steve7777
No I don't know Shane, as we use Hornby radiators at work. I'll go have a chat with him at some stage. I have had a supercharged VX commy and I still regret selling it Not too sure on rear axle yet, would be good to use the VR commodore diff, as I have a whole car but will need extensive mods. Can you recommend anything? Love your HB by the way, has been my motivation of late. Bugger about the crash though!
yoeddynz
Yeah crash sucked. Just been out tuning the new engine and I fear the magnum 1800 axle might not last long. I think they are meant to be good for 200bhp. Will be interested to see how a commie axle fits in. My future plans are for irs so I can get more grip, stronger different and disc's. steve7777
Yeah I want to try to keep the whole commy driveline to keep the right diff ratio etc for the 5speed, and the V6 brakes etc for cert. IRS sounds like a challenge! Will post some pictures when I have both diffs out side by side to compare! Did the 1800 magnum diff bolt straight into the HB? yoeddynz
Almost. You need the 1800 top arms too then it's a straight in swap. I think the rear prop pcd is the same as coatings etc - quite common. You get bigger drums on the 1800 axle too so that's nice...
Shaz
Any opinions on colour? Original was poo brown, it had 5 different shades when I got it! Brown again! Maybe just stick to 1-3 shades of brown this time.
yoeddynz
Yes! Brown is a totally underrated and underused colour.
