jaikno66
Yeah I will need re bogged. Rippled?
Truenotch
It just looks like there are ripples at the bottom of the door (dents etc) - it could just be old paint that's still stuck there, it's hard to tell from a picture. How flat is does the panel feel when you run your hand along it?
Spencer
I will never re-coat over old bog when going back to bare metal, especially so if its had paint stripper on it. With that amount of bog that door is going to need some serious panel work, surely easier to find a straight door for a KP
jaikno66
Yeah there are quite a lot of small little dents in it that have had more bog to fill them in. The door is not really that bad(think its just the photo) will I have to bog first then etch prime or other way round?
Spencer
Get it back to bare bright steel and put epoxy primer on it, you can the mull around and bog it when ever you please. If using a Single pack etch you should bog on the steel, follow the tech sheets on the products you will be using
Rookie
Have you panel beated before? If not I will help you, that door will take AGES to fix. Seeings as it is just a kp and parts will be easy to get, find another door, a quick 420 and prime it, your life will get much much easier. jaikno66
This are spare doors for the kp61, I don think it will need to much bog because they are just little dents which should just pop out. Will get the starlet up in the build thread tonight.
Rookie
So you have a shrinker? If not it will be difficult to get it straight.
Spencer
Dents don't just pop out bud, the metal gets stretched in most cases and you may need to do some shrinking. You probably cant even get a dolly in there so you will have to use a stud gun etc.
Bistro
If you're going to be rebogging (which trust me, you will need to do now) then i would say get a decent long sander as this is a large flat panel something like that - should be stocked at your local automotive paint store you will prob have to do a few skims of bog to get it straight again - panel work is not fun hahah your 'little dents' prob wont pop out very well and if they do you will need to bog them anyways as there is no way the panel will be perfectally flat again. best of luck dude
Rookie
Look dude, don't take what we are saying as criticism, we are just trying to help you do the job you probably expect. IMO that door is fucked and you should definitely find a mint one, KP's aren't unobtanium yet so it should be a relatively easy task. Unless you have heaps of experience/ ARE a panel beater I wouldn't recommend anyone do a complete bare metal job, they are so much work on old cars, and even the panel beaters I know avoid bare metal resprays like the plague. Rookie
This is what I used to get the finish of my car good after using one of those that Bizzo posted to get the shape right.
Bistro
Yea - bare metel respray is great in theory, and you KNOW exactally what you are working with when you do one HOWEVER 90% of painting a car is in the panel work - and just like anything, the better the starting point (ie a nice straight door) the less work you have to do. I guess being so young you have more time on your side rather than money, and it would be a good learning curve. but if it was me, I would save the time and spend the money on a straighter door - as Rookie has pointed out, KP doors are fairly common comparitively to others
Spencer
I have 1 million blocks Durablocks are awesome if you keep them true on some glass, especially handy is the round block and the half width block, I get the stick on sandpaper from the states Blocks and blocking are another full topic of their own Listen to the guys above, you should treat these doors as a learning exercise only

jaikno66
Would de-greaser work go cleaning the door?
durty
No. Degreaser is not the same as wax and grease remover
