BlownCorona
dont these engines have rubber bushes pressed into where the bolts go through? mine never had it in, and it rotates in the frame due to shit loads of play. might just need to add some spacers to keep the bolts firm on the engine. bubblegoose
they may have but they'll be as hard as a hardened lump of hard stuff, solid mount is the only way to go tbh, flex in the arse end of an old machine is bad enough for the chain you don't want to be adding more
BlownCorona
fair enough then, ill sus out the rotation play and solid mount it, and use a liter of loctite
BlownCorona
also chain is fucked. c50 chain thats pretty seized, and v50 sproket isnt perfect tooth spacing, so im looking for a good c50 chain and sprocket
bubblegoose
just get new, its not worth messing and mixing with used parts they will wear 10 times as fast and the fuckeredness could be part of your vibration problem (it also saps much needed power)
BlownCorona
yeah i was pretty sure the chain issue was causing alot of it. where would i buy a new chain and sproket? will they be the same as pitbike gear, ive seen some cheap stuff available for them. bubblegoose
any bike shop, helps to take in a sample with older stuff like this, std roller chain and cheap sprockets shouldn't set you back anymore than $80 try trevor peirce yamaha first you may be surprised how competitive there prices are and ALOT more helpfull than budget mc
KIRK
yeh take samples. they have big books of sprokets and put yours on top of picture so see if its the same lol for chain just count the links and they give you one to match pitch of sprokets
bubblegoose
and now is a good time to change the ratio if you need more pop or top
BlownCorona
but i need a honda sproket and i have a yamaha one so no sample :/ also i discovered today that my rectifier has melted and shat all its insides out, probably contributing to the whole mess, fucking bike. BlownCorona
so in my infinite wisdom, ive realized the condenser has never been properly hooked up. cant be helping..
Rookie
I'm impressed you got it to run without one of those, well done!
bubblegoose
will run but the feedback would fuck with everything, including the old lady that lives next doors pacemaker

BlownCorona
earthed out the condensor, made it run epicly better. reved out far longer today i went to set the timing cause it was all kinds of fucked up and hard as hell to start, now starts first kick, but wont rev out like it did when i earthed the condensor. the rear sprokets teeth have been worn into ramps by the incorect pitch and fucked chain, so thats causing the chain to slip under high load, will need to replace with correct items, but other wise its going okayish,
felixx
Josh, can you come round one day and show me how to check the timing on my LT50 engine
BlownCorona
quite likely to be a different ignition system (probably cdi) to my old cub engine (contact breaker points), but none the less i will read up on the lt50 and offer any assistance i can,
bubblegoose
timing/flywheel cover is on the left hand side (IIRC), rip that off and throw a timing light on it. the markings should be very clear and simple (its normally even labeled TDC) and as josh said its cdi so very unlikely its out
BlownCorona
yeah i expect timing isnt your issue, it was only an issue with mine cause i dicked around with it heaps before actually understanding how bike timing works. happy to try get it running better, most likely its a leak of some sort somewhere, or a blockage somewhere, not much else on a 2 stroke to go wrong to be honest. will need to sus out a time next week perhaps, might even venture the cub out on a proper ride with its slipping chain and give the engine a harder run haha. also after some research on www.jtsprockets.com it appears the c90 is a 428 pitch chain, and i can get stuff of trademe to suit for bugger all. bubblegoose
watch out with that chain, when they break they fly right though the engine cases and make a bloody big oily mess. have you taken your chain and sprockets into trevor pierce yet? the parts guy is supper helpfull and would probably send off what you have to be matched up into a working set, failing that you could get him to order a blank sprocket in the correct pitch and have it drilled to suit
