engine tuning for old school cars

BIG A

Recommended Posts

Hitech motorsport are supposed to be the guys to go to for sidedraft carb tuning, they can jam it on their dyno as well. I've never used them personally and expect them to be $$$.

I would say so they look $$$

Rob Penman Motorsport might be worth a try.

I will give them a call tomorrow and see what they can do for me.

I was really looking for someone more central.

If you plug a usb cable in, then i can tune it ;)

I used to do a bit with carbies, but loooooong time ago (when datto 1200 coupes could be bought for under 1k in good nick)

What symptoms does it currently have?

The car needs to get the timing sorted as it is a little hesitant when I am excellerating and surging a little when at cruising speed.

Was idiling high when we put the vaccuum advance on but we adjusted the carbs and got it pretty much sorted but could do with a little more adjustment.

have you synchronized/Balanced the carbs with a http://www.palmside.co.nz/product_pcid_15854.html

found this worked well for me to get the carbs Balanced also adjusting all idles 2.5 turns out adjusting from here via plug color chart normaly quarter turn or so to correct from rich or lean ( If carbs need cleaning or repair caberator specialist carlton gore rd where fine and ok price well )

A cheap timing light and a degree or two more advance and you should be sweat for under $ 130 if you need plugs and leads not much more new dizzy cap etc .

I can lend you a carb Synchronizer from Mt Wellington and a timing light small deposit

In the end I went to Otahuhu tuning and the old guy there loved my car and did a pretty good job on getting the Gloria all tuned up and it only cost me $79 which I thought was a pretty good deal.

He adjusted the points, did the timing checked the vaccuum, adjusted the carbs and of course did the obligitory road test
