Horse25
alternators are internally regulated, well the one you will be using alternators are even better http://freespace.virgin.net/tommy.sandh ... ersion.htm
peteretep
most(all?) alternators have inbuilt regulators, the acr17(escort and common british car alternator) has an inbuilt one so only has a couple of wires. That means that you get rid of the big black box and connect some of the wires together, someone here will know what to do with all of them, read this first and see how hard you think it would be for you, viewtopic.php?f=48&t=5614 I put a subaru justy 60 amp alternator in my escort but wired it as part of an entire rewire so never really looked at doing the conversion myself, the final result is far cleaner than that huge black box setup

burrowssj
cheers for the links, im very tempted to give it a go! I've actually just sorted a mechanic friend whos gona do me beer for labour deal building up the generator an starter for me haha but if we can't get it going hes keen to help me convert it. Does anyone know what exact model bracket im looking for? it would be a 1300/1600 escort ghia model alternator and bracket ? and do they line up to the generator holes? (if anyone has one let me know)
governorsam
un plug the 2 wires from the back of the generator, then join the terminals on the generator together with a bit of wire or whatever. hook your volt meter red lead to them. earth (battery -) the black lead. start the car up, should get about 15 to 16 volts from the generator. (or more) if not, gen is the problem if you do, regulator is the problem. or wiring. still run a gen on my morrie, they work fine on a stock car.
