Trump Headlight Issues

Evening all,

I'm having some electrical issues involving the RHS headlights on my Trump 2.5. What's happening is, the low beam will eventually die, and cease to operate (while being weak whilst it does work) then when I switch on the high beam it fires up - albeit weakly. However, the high beam will eventually die, in which case neither RHS headlight will operate.

It appears to be frying the filament in both lamps when the high beam finally kicks the bucket.

Any suggestions? Electrical faults are not my strong point sadly.

Thanks in advance,

Rich

Sealed beam as.

Have pulled apart, cleaned, tested earths... found a lug with 2 earth wires on it behind the headlight dangling free, have found it a nice clean home and hopefully this is the source of the problem. I just need another lamp for it now.

The only sealed beam ones available new are a shit square profile, not just a nice curved dome like older type lights. Has anyone got a high/low beam 5 3/4" sealed unit anywhere? 3 pin plug type...

A semi sealed/halogen conversion is on the cards in due course though.

The problem will almost certainly be the switch on the steering column, they have all the current flowing through them and burn out the contacts. This happened to me at night on a twisty road in the coromandel once.

I would bet almost any money that this is the root of the issue.

Yea as above yo

Easy fix for now is to use the existing headlight 12v feed to switch some relays with some decent 12v feeds from the battery. Its common for so many old cars to feed the full headlight current through a OG switch in the cabin, relays is the fix

yea escort had same issue, full current through the high low switch. fucked out once driving to castle point with 3 grls in the back.

deff it both ears after that.

but after rebuild used the feeds to switch relays. also got 5 3/4 head lamps. they cheap as chips in either semi or full sealed.

i got semi and run 120/90 bulbs with all new wiring for max seeing in the dark.

beware not to run high watt lamps on standard old wires. = fires and shit. maby.
