oldrx
My current thinking on lowering is to trial and error aftermarket springs until car is at desired ride height and then shorten factory (rx2) shocks (they seem to still be in good cond) until captive. But i was reading on another forum that a stiffer aftermarket spring can wreck a standard shock when rebounding by 'pushing' it out too hard or whatever, this sounds a bit BS though. Thoughts? This is a medium term solution until i can afford proper aftermarket shocks. These for rear http://www.jerrybickel.com/shocks-and-a ... -5202.html And Konis or whatever for front. Simon
Yes any spring with a higher spring rate will destroy factory shocks. Especially if they are the old ones that the car left the factory with. The shocks in my Golf cooked and spewed their guts in about 500kays. Good shocks will make the lowered car actually handle too. eke_zetec_RWD
in saying that lots of aftermarket "lowering" springs are soft as poos. go coilover in front. not as hard as it sounds.

Yowzer
Also also also If you are using stiffer springs and a harder shock to counter the extra springy, make sure the shock mounts are also strong enough. Otherwise they may bend / break etc
Jase
/ start seam welding stuff, chevette popped shock towers out due to this
