anhonyb
frankenstein carby has been made but the battery is cranking over slower than a turtle running through peanut butter so It'l have to wait for tomorrow
Yowzer
Your battery is flat. Add more turbo.
anhonyb
battery charged overnight put carby on this morning still no luck. fuel is getting down there as it almost fires everytime but it just wont start
Yowzer
Almost fires how? Will have a clean bang, spin the engine a bit and cuts out again? Or backfiring spluttering stuttery firing? If the former, you either have a fueling issue or a spark issue. Compression could also be a problem, or timing could be too far retarded. If the latter, your timing is all up the shitter. Got a timing gun and compression tester?
EFI_LC
Have you checked earth? Have you timed it as I said earlier post? Is it points and if so are they correctly gapped? It sounds like spark
anhonyb
earth, timing, gap is all set it fires but it doesn't idle at all unless full acceleration. with foot to the floor it just idles at about 1500 rpm
Yowzer
Does it run better if you spray something flammable down the carb? Does it vomit black smoke out the back? Compression test. Do it.
shizzl
so it now idles but only at full throttle? progress, but not a win yet ae hmmm, accelerator pump? it may have a hole/split in the diaphragm if its that type of pump.. have you had a play with the idle screw?
anhonyb
i changed the diaphragm with one that wasn't split and I've played around with the carb alot but nothing seems to be working the fuel gets sucked through the carb with vacuum right? possibly vacuum leak as when it did start I could here a big sucking noise
shizzl
have you got any "start ya bastard" or brake clean? crc should work too get someone to fire it up and get it to idle, and spray brake clean or some shit around the carby/ manifold. and and change in the idle/revs will indicate your vac leak... anhonyb
gonna go get some of that stuff, when I get back i'll reset everything back just to make sure again and then hopefully it will fire
shizzl
if youve got it to a running state dont change it untill you try to locate leaks, it may help to get it sorted.... all the best
anhonyb
it was in a running state but it stopped running so im going to reset it all
anhonyb
i swapped intake manifolds and the car now starts but the problem now is that it only runs when choke is on full and at a very high rpm. As soon as you move the choke a tiny bit the engine dies even when i was revving it hardout
mikuni
Are you running SU carb? If so sounds like you have no fluid/oil in it. Undo the black screw on top and top it up, will probably run sweet. My old Shoves used to always run like shit when it was empty.

anhonyb
got a bit ahead of myself there, the oil in the top bought the idle down but it didnt help with the choke issue
shizzl
mixture then? thank fuck its actually running though man...now you can get somewhere with it
anhonyb
yeah iv been playing around a bit with mixture it doesnt seem to be changing much in other news went to finaly drive it and just as i put clutch in the whole cable just moves instead of just the inner bit need to get some sort of grommet thing to hold the outer cable as it just moves through what used to hold out... this is getting annoying
