samii
hey there, i'm putting a new pinto engine in my escort but the gasket in between the engine and the gearbox (think it's called a shim?) is bent and a big chunk of it snapped off when i was moving it. is it compulsary to have one? will it run just for the motokhana on the 25th without one? and if not where can i get one from? My name is Russell
Its just a shield to stop stones getting up in your clutch etc, you should be able to just hammer it flat and weld/grind the crack or could leave it as is, its just a shield. I always bend mine allot because i always miss that small bolt and try force them apart
Toucan
Backing plate is meant to be there. The bellhousing bolts will clamp it mostly straight, but if you can find another off a spare engine then it would be good to use one without chunks missing from it. Gaz
Are you saying road debris has direct access to your flywheel, Gaz? Yes I am. Kinda silly really as the engine in question has had alot spent on balancing, the flywheel getting wreaked would be a waste of monies. It is however 90% protected by the sump. kyteler
A tiny piece of plate steel cut to fit and held in place with even one bolt would be the go, just my thoughts.

Truenotch
Duct tape works fine. Lightweight and easy to remove . Just have to check it every few weeks.... and make sure you apply it on a dry day.
