Finally got round to getting an image host!! Nah just used a normal spray gun with the flake mixed with clear, sprayed it on. turned out rough as shit so then after it dried wiped it down and put over another clear coat, fixed it up good. haha cheers cant wait to drive properly

Gaz
Much better look on the Superlights. Yes indeed. 4ages always look so at home in Cortina engine bays IMO. Must be that similaraity that they stole of lotus/dig Gaz

BS5620
Must be that similaraity that they stole of lotus/dig Hahaha i like to believe the rumor that lotus was helping toyota develop a twin cam but then shit went down and they pulled out hahaha. If only lotus or cozzie were so easy to come by haha wiring didn't give you too many hassles i hope yup was horrible, started to become to baffling, ended up getting Volts in Rotorua to do it, good guys, good price
NaN
.........The only problem is that with the struts being changed left to right now the calipers are in the front of the strut and not behind it as original mk1 cortina ones are!! (will this pose a problem??)...... The calipers are fine, as long as you can swap the rack to line up with the steering arms, and get the less than 35 degree angle in the steering linkages (column), .. there is another problem though .. If the certifier works out you've swapped the struts around he/she might not be keen to give you a cert. The reason is that the thread on the stub axle is set to lock with forward moving wheels. you've reversed that, so that means they will unlock with forward moving motion. .. very dangerous. BS5620
Yeah steering linkages line up sweet. Wow thanks for pointing out the issue with the thread on the stubs!! I will try it but I guess escorts are pretty common so most probably will pick up on it!! Mk2 Cortina struts with the 3 bolt steering arm at the bottom would be ideal but trying to track them down are getting harder!! Or could try and get starlet struts but then wouldnt fit my wheels or brakes and have spent a heap over hauling the Austin 4pots and wheels and would have to get different stud pattern superlights!! crazy_rich
Gidday Greg, very cool car you've got there, I've always liked the idea of a 4age mk 1, you've pulled it off nicely. Regarding your strut swap, I once had the plan of swapping struts and running a skyline steering rack in my capri to clear the 1uz's front bowl sump. However swapping the struts and steering arms around will mess up your ackerman angle. Have a read of this. http://www.nationaltbucketalliance.com/ ... kerman.asp I'm not sure what escort struts are like but neither of my capri struts have a left hand thread, which would make me think escort's/ cortinas dont either. The wheel bearings should be correctly preloaded and secured with a split pin through a castle nut. Have a chat to Gaz, he has successfully done a rack and pinion conversion on his mk2 cortina. BS5620
escort struts pretty much the same as capri ones except are a small dia insert and spring, plus the mk2 ones have a fixed steering arm and not one you can bolt on and off. yeah started following what gaz had done but run into problems with how my engine sat, the sump fouled the rack. So with the starlet being a rear mounted rack there will be no issues with that. Cheers crazy rich for the link. I have never really understood the whole achermans theroy ( or been to scared to investigate more haha). After reading that I think that the starlet rack is better suited to the cortina because the original mk1 cortina steering runs from behind the eng x-member as well. My engine x-member is in the process of being welded up so hopefully have more pics soon
