Hemi
Ok that sounds re asuring ... how do you go about removing the auto choke can you literally just remove it of the side and take the rotating buterfly choke type bit out? i will remove it completely when i get back from auckland but for now i just remover the 2 chokes and the shaft. runs so much nicer mate Agreed the auto choke on the DGAV is notoriusly bad in my experiences with them, remove the linkage and buterflys, you can also remove the choke and join the water lines together if you want. they run nicer just a bit harder to start and get up to temp haha. And if your auto choke if fucked parts are hard to come by so a manual conversion is a good idea. auto chokes are crap , had a similar problem in my escort with the 32/36dgav on my 1600 , ran like a bag of shit and always miles too rich jammed open the chokes (cant remeber how) and it ran mint. I had no problem with this carb for years on my RS2000, even with a road rally spec head. A pair of 44 idf's created loads* more power, but they were a bitch except for full on/off. Just be sure they're in good nick. The throttle pump diaphragm is a classic failure. ... Steve * As in fuck I'm in the verge first time I floored it. Gaz
I run one on my pinto with a cam also and I have had no prob with it either. Have actually ran one on my last pinto and my 1600 and never had problems there either. When they run right they are great. Gaz
slipsittin
Just be sure they're in good nick. The throttle pump diaphragm is a classic failure. Steve This is true but I have had issues with these carbs when they have been sitting for a while. The best thing to do is to take it off the clean it with carb clean(different to brake clean and does the job better) from super cheap or some place like that. Then I would poor hot water from a boiled jug through the auto choke pipe inlet and see if the choke is coming right off. People play with the adjustment on the choke also and it ends up keeping the fuel in the choke position but opening the butterflies. also make sure your idle screw is doing its job and not running of the choke one as this causes over fueling. If you remove the butterflies and the linkage, YOU MUST LEAVE EVERYTHING ELSE THERE AS YOU HAVE A HIGH POSSABILITY OF CATCHING YOUR CAR ON FIRE!!!!!!!! This ^^^^^^is because there are vacume ports that also work through the choke set up that even when plugged can cause the engine to over fuel and over flow the float bowl. This was a sure fire when these carbs had the choke removed and fitted to a non crossflow engine(for those who don't know the carb sits over the exhaust manifold) Failure to get it right......Single side draught has good economy compared to the down draught Corey
Gaz
We tightened tapets and that brang compression back up to around 170=190 on all 4 cylinders. Removed chokes, played with mixture and idle and hey presto its pretty sweet now. Mixture screw needed loctite. Car just needs reatarding a bit now as its knococking a tad. Cheers UJ for tools and knowledge Gaz

Unclejake
Ace. You have 35 degrees ignition (all in ATM) which is a little high. We can knock it back to 30/31 in seconds yo.
