Again.... It is really easy to make the booster fit with the sidedraft manifold..

Try what I said.. You will see it doesnt need much manipulation. All the other options you are looking at will cost a fair amount of $$$ and are unneeded.

buy the time you have spent ages fucking around and spent moonbeans getting teh bits to make it work you could have just got this and been done with it

sometimes its just a matter of payign teh money

One of my mates had an Escort rally car years ago. It didn't even need a booster. It started off as an 1100 with drums all round, he got front discs from a 1300 from memory. No booster needed, raced it like that no probs. That was with a hotted up 2 litre fitted.

i think thats a bit different. getting the brakes to lock up on gravel takes half the effort as it does on tarmac. if not less.

im very interested in the pedal box route, as it makes sence as it fits the purpose for what the car is being built as used for.

im not affraid of spending money in the right areas to save mucking around in the future. however this has applied quite often so far through the build and its starting to realy add up. but at the same time the car is definitely starting to come together thats for sure!

I run a remote booster in my escort to clear the manifold of the engine. (There was no other way round it) The only other reason I can think of running one is so that it looks tidier in the engine bay. Perhpas it moves some brake lines etc inside the car away from the hot bay but I dont think this is really an issue. I could be wrong but is there another reason to run one?

Im not trying to steer you away from the idea just wondering why you would want to run it if you didnt have to?

Also I can post up the articals on how to modify your standard pedal box etc from the rally prep manual iof youd like?

Gaz

edit: Guess it allows you to also run a larger booster etc.

My mate's rally escort also got plenty of laps on manfield. From memory he was doing 1.21 or so 'cos I was a bit upset my V8 would only do 1.26.

His brakes worked OK but a bit harder than what most people are used to.

The Rally escort I had also had no booster.. It ran fine, pedal was heavy but still worked. The guy I brought car off said he liked it with no booster as could feel the brakes better. His words not mine lol.

Anyways, I run no booster in the Cortina and its fine.. From experiance however I know that an escort is much nicer to drive with the booster.. There isnt really any reason to get rid of it, so why bother? Unless your UJ and want to reduce weight!

Removed my booster yesterday. Looks like my new master is going to line up pretty well. I'll just make a small spacer with countersunk bolts to change the pattern and I should be away.

Opens up sooo much room, I should be able to get my new airbox in there with no trouble now.

probably steering well away here, but is there anyway of making escorts brakes feel better,i mean my stock brakes feel like theres no damn pressure there at all,you really have to squeeze the pedal to get it to stop, its my 3rd escort and theyv all been the same....

possibly a shagged booster?

anyone set up a hillman remote booster?i dont understand how they actually work ?can someone fill me in...

just so you all know, eke zetec here (havent got your name yet lol) is going to be building me a pedal box, so it will solve about 3 problems in one!

1 - wont have to re-kit current booster or fiddle around with that.

2 - will be able to run sidedrafts with no troubles about room and clearance

3- can run a wide alloy radiator because the booster and resoviour wont restrict width as much.

im happy.

zetec, iv got a kind of busy weekend ahead, going to a hillclimb tomorrow, so i will probly take out pedals etc after work on monday and get it to the courior when he comes in to work on tuesday.

cheers
