Commie looks pretty decent, if it was'nt a Holden id say keep it and find a doner that is rusty or crashed.

Yeah where ya finding ya front gaurds and whats the tag on those bad boys? Will have to do a weigh up when you have them both off to see weight differance.

Gaz

i got a good deal on them as the guy that makes them normals makes fiberglass guards and makes the bubbles as a sep set but i asked him if he can put the bubbles on for me and he said he will try and make a one peace front gaurd with the bubble on but for the front gaurds with bubles and the rears being made wider all up $800 cash.

as for the car i drove it to the ford show on sunday and ive never been so embarised in my whole life.

but aaprt from that im realy enjoying driving a big 6 witha manual and this motor in my mk1 even without a turbo would be fast as fuck .

im getting excitded haha

just got to wait till next year when i buy the missis a new 4x4 then i can strip it and the fun begins

cheers

Rofls, someone sticking up for a Vl commodore and it doesnt even have a V8 :rolleyes: Any commodore lover normally hates the Vl's due to the nissan drivetrain :rolleyes:

From Memory the commodores started getting disc brake rear ends from around the start of the VK (all not just the v8/royales etc) Diff should be the same as older ones.

Which diff does it have as one is fairly average.. Will try to remeber which one is the better one. Look at the d/shaft, if its got the ubolt or nut & bolt arrangement at the diff head. (one of the diffs are prone to stuffing the axles)

You are planning on putting a twin cam in or nah?

Cheers,Chris

hay chris

not 100% sure about the diff its a single spinner and drums.

i want discs and a lsd if i can just change the head that would be sweet.

the diff i want and have been told to go for is a ex-cop vp diff .

as for the motor im keeping it sohc but will be turboing it.

then once its all in theres always room for change later on down the line.

cheers

Vp should be IRS, should

So its just a berlina then?

Could possibly find out about some Disc Brake rear ends for you and how much.. (speedway people, heaps of spares) He'll also be able to tell me which is the better diff.

Cheers,Chris

I did some research and built an lsd head for my VL. the VL diff is a Borg Warner 78 series. most commies, falcons and some valiants all came out with these diffs. VL lsd diff heads and hard to come by and expensive. I managed to get a lsd diff centre out of an XF coon (i think). What i had to do was take off the crown wheel and replace it with the VL one. But, the crown wheel needs spacing out (8mm if i remember right) So i got a spacer made, however to do this you will require longer crown wheel bolts, which are left hand thread, i had to get these made which was the most expensive part.

As for bolting a turbo onto an RB30e i know a few tips that might be useful, i also have a few ecu chips for an RB30e ecu. Which have been proven to allow the use of the na ecu and injectors with 9psi, normally struggle to get 4psi without the chip. Let me know if your interested.

Not all VP, VR, VS's are IRS, alot have a live axle. Cop spec VR's had the IRS LSD diff. You should be able to use the diff centre, but you wont be able to use the whole head.

VL calais turbo and V8 and few 3L's had disk brake rear end. How ever the VN disk over drum hand brake setup bolts on to the VL diff fairly painlessly and is a cheaper more readily available option.

Also in case your interested for your project - the diff gearing in a NZ 2L VL is much more suited for acceleration and pick up. and for 4.11 gearing (even more pick up of the mark) use the gearing out of a horrible NZ 2L 4cyl VN

thanks for all that mate i think you know hellraiser?

as he sent me a pm with some of the info but i will keep you in mind for the chip.

so does that mean i can use the n/a loom ,ecu, injectors ect?

cheers

Yea i know hellraizer, good mate of mine. Im originally from gisborne. (where he is)

Yea as far as im aware you can just bolt the turbo on and run the water and oil feeds. The series 2 Rb30e block has blanks in it for these lines. you can just use standard n/a loom and ecu with the chip installed and get 8-9psi boost. but ideally in a perfect world where money grew on trees, you would upgrade injectors (can use mitsi magna ones) and use a link ecu (you must be the reason hellraizer was asking me all this the other week) so you probably know......

I researched all this several times was going to do it to my VL wag but decided on an RB20DET. Then i thought i might put the RB30e in an LJ torana and turbo it, but decided against it.

But any questions let me know and i'l see if i can help. Chip is on trade me if you want a read it. But if i sell them thru this website i'l do a way better deal.

Cool build man. Enjoying reading up on this sorta crap and very keen to see some progress with the conversion. I saw tell the missus to buy a cheap run about rather than a gay expensive 4x4 and crack into the build asap :D

I'd be super keen to just see you wack a rb25de head on top rather than piss around turboing it and I'm sure you'd see a reasonable power increase, though obviously not as much as the turbo conversion.

I'm guessing that buying an rb25de and rebuilding your engine with those pistons, but otherwise standard rb30e block and the standard head from the rb25de with ecu and loom running it all. Just an idea anyway.

thanks alot mate.

ive been doing a lot of searching myself on the interweb and thats the reason i held out for the holden i bought cos it has all the places for the oil and water feeds and returns.

all i want to do is just get it started next year with all standerd parts so i can get it running with one of your chips and a small turbo set up.

then once its all buit and certed i can up grade things later on down the track.

cheers

hahaha my lets me have my toys so ive got to let her have a 4x4 just make sure it has a towbar so i can use it aswell for towing my mk1

the thing with the motor is mate i think it will be enogh i mean

its a 3L 6 cylinder with a turbo in a mk1 escort and it pulls like a school boy in a heavy vl in standered form :o .

i think ill be happy and theres loads of people around like (LURK1N-G8KEPA) that have givin me loads of ideas on getting power out of it.

and if im not happy then once its built i can modify from there.

cheers
