treggo
Hey. Is the 2.3 litre pinto the same dimensions as a 2l pinto? would it work with my standard engine mounts for my 2l pinto? also will it fit my zhaust manifold. I'm asking this because i have been offered one at a reasonable rate. Any help will be much appreciated. Matt.
sholdowa
Make sure it fits. To the best of my knowledge, nothing is common between the US pinto and the european swall^H^H^H pinto. Steve

Raizer
Possibly because the Euro pinto is an engine where the American pinto is a (absolute piece of shit) Car
treggo
hey, LOL this American 'pinto' is out of a low level mustang. I was hoping it was just a higher displacement version of the European 'pinto' OHC motor.

Burntrubber
The 2.3L is a lot longer than the 2.0L my mate has a MK1 escort he bought a 2.3 turbo engine from a Mustang and it didn't even fit in the engine bay he reckons. He already had a 2.0L in there and he had already moved the radiator froward when he did that but it still wasn't enough. He's keep the carb and carb hat and most of the other turbo shit. RT
Totally different engines.. apparently the oil pump is the only common part. They are bigger and heavier.. the yanks pull some insane power out of those 2.3's though.. it's the same as what was in some of the 85 SVO mustangs. Don't forget that Ford Pinto engine is the unofficial but ubiquitous nickname for Ford OHC 4cy powerplant. The very reason the European 2L OHC got the nickname is because they were originally commissioned for America's crazy little car which was called 'the pinto.' Hence the confusion... Unclejake
^^^ Yup - trew. The Pinto name breaks with the other unofficial convnvention of naming the Ford motors of the era after the place of manufacture. The pre-crossflow was just that but the 1300 and 1600 crossflows became known as the Kent motors, the 3ltr V6 The Essex and the 2.8 V6 the Colone (sp?) after the locations of the plants they were supossedly made in. I can't remember what the horrible liitle 2 ltr V4 was called right now.........they came out in the Ford Taunus, Capri, Corsair and Transit van's from memory. Has anyone got a photo of the Transit Van that Ford poked ontop of a F1 car?
davidian
i have pix in an old classic ford mag at home. they looked badass, there was 2-3 versions from memory, ie. mk1 etc... not exactly "on top of a F1 car" tho, just cossied up with mega mods i think

Unclejake
Thankyou Wikipedia Essex V4 was a V4 engine from Ford Motor Company made at the plant in Essex. The engine was available in two capacities, 1663cc and 1996cc, differing only in stroke. This engine was used on the Ford Corsair, Capri Mk I, Consul/Granada Mk I, Ford Zephyr 4 Mk IV and certain models of the Ford Transit van. It was related to the Essex V6 engine which, with two extra cylinders, offered a displacement of 2,5 litres and 3.0 litres
