danger
guy brought me his 4k starlet to have a look at today. Apparently it shat itself on the motorway (not being thrashed) and made ticking noises then went bang etc. He thought he'd blown his gearbox. Its starting fine. No oil in water/ vice versa. No leaks. No knocks or tapping when running Doesn't idle. And I took the airfilter off to find the whole carb was wet with oil/ extremely fine metal fillings. Kinda like grey oil. You know what I mean. Would have thought headgasket but no water/ oil contamination and it starts good. ?

peteretep
in my galant it was a rooted ring, so the piston was tapping the head and making the ticking sound
danger
Well... compression was fine but it was firing on 3 with a massive points gap. Reset the points and cleaned all the plugs etc, checked leads etc. Found it was running on no oil... I got it to start and pop... Now theres a rather large hole in the block by 1st cylinder, and an equally large hole in the sump below it... I'm gonna take the sump off to see exactly what happened but theres nothing of the conrod left on the bearing journal... Problem solved any.. I dont have to fix it!
