J2Racing
Are these legal? Does anyone know? Please no guess. I've been told these are now illegal due to the process makes the wheels brittle.
Sparkle
If this is true, would be the most fantastic thing Ive heard in a long time.

J2Racing
I don't know why chroming makes them brittle , But I'm pretty sure it's true. I used to work for a company selling chev spares. We did alloy front pullys for small blocks but someone else did chrome. The crome ones used to break. Yes dat you can paint your wheels any colour you like. crazy_rich
I know that with CAD plating, objects just been plated have to be baked afterwards to stop hydrogen embrittlement, not sure if chroming is the same. Personally i dont think it'd make shit all difference, ive seen old modgies etc last for absolutely ages and ive never heard of any wheels breaking or cracking. Bullitt
Chroming definately makes steel more brittle than before. However its only really relevant if its something like a wire wheel where you have small pieces of metal that can individually break. Ive never heard of anyone who has had trouble with a chromed steel rim. Im sure if theyd made them illegal there would have been something said before now
sholdowa
I got the same feedback in my cycling days from people who refused to chrome front forks for the same reason. So reynolds tubing didn't like it either.
