peteretep
So I want to sand down my floorpan, im thinking wire wheel on a drill or grinder. It has a rust hole in the front passenger side footwell which I will get welded up by a panel beater when I get my engine bay painted. So what I would like to know is what do I put on the bare metal? I dont really care what it is but I want it to be very rust proof as it will have carpet etc over it. And would you recommend me filling up the little drain holes? (I assume thats what they are)
avenger79
hold on a sec, why do you want to sand it,to paint your floor???? fuck bare-metalling it. scuff over it with some old sandpaper, knock the shit(mainly rust) off.slap some PA10 or POR15 on it.done don't use fisholine, and don't weld the drain plugs up
peteretep
so just get all/most of the paint off whats PA10 or POR15?
avenger79
No,leave the paint on.no need to remove it (pic's could possibly help) PA/POR is a rust proofing, its that red oxide colour.you've probaly seen it around.
crazy_rich
use POR 15 http://www.por15.co.nz/. PA 10 is shit. Wire brush (or better, a 3M style stripper disk, I swear by those things) all the rust off, get the shitty glue residue off with turps and rough it up with sandpaper before painting, and yeh dont weld up the drain holes.[/url]
peteretep
thanks for the info, It said that the POR15 wouldnt work properly if you didnt take all the paint off? Heres the floorpan, it had brown stuff in the crevices that we have taken out rust in this pic
cubastreet
wire wheel in a grinder works pretty well if you end up going that way. Did the bed of my ute in about 4 hours. fucken noisy tho, needed bits of toilet paper stuffed in my ears cos my old man swiped my muffs. Your floor doesn't look that bad though don't think I'd bother with bare metal. That brush on bedliner they sell at supercheap is real good for floors. it's basically a plastic coating so it resists scuffing and is nice and waterproof. crazy_rich
^ I'm fully gona go get one of them tomorrow. did it peel all the underseal off too? did you run it in a normal 5inch grinder or bigger?
Mr.Mk1
another good product to use is Hammerite, just brushes on and self levels so it goes nice and smooth and glossy. Goes over bare metal and paint.

cute wee gem
Thats looks good Callum, does it make mean scratches in the metal? i.e would it be a good idea to use on outside panels to strip paint, I've got some of those paint and rust strippers but they take forever Oh, and where did you get it? cubastreet
Yeah I got one like that from supercheap. Only like $20 and has done my ute bed and tailgate and one fender and still looks almost like new. Doesn't damage steel so it's all good.
