esky boi
You'll need the esky reverse light switch bro, its a straight swap with the Sierra one.. Ive just finished my conversion too, got the cert last week and went for a wof at vtnz. I dont have reverse lights hooked up yet either, they're not actually required by law so he cant fail it if they dont work.
Eskorted
yea i was thinking about a switch aye but didnt think he woulda accepted it, but yea it was one of the points (of 9) that it failed on so yea ill check ltsa website and try print the page that states its not require by law and show the fool. it used to be an auto, the old auto box is at my old mans place, would the swich be on that?? sounds simple enough to wire up so why not... Gaz
I dont even have reverse lights on my mk1. But i think you might find its a case of "if they are there then they need to go"
esky boi
Yea, auto box should have the same switch.. the Sierra ones have the two prongs sticking out, and Escort ones just have the little clip kinda thing.. But yea as Methodz said, some places will probably just say that if the're there then they have to work. Even if theyre not required by law. Btw, whereabouts in Orewa are you? I might have seen your Escort round...
excort
its reallly easy to wire the switch up man you just cut the wire on the original switch and connect it to the one on the 5 speed correct me if im wrong but i think theres only one wire for it and the other end connects to earth? Leebo3
It looks like i may have accquired a car for my 2 litre conversion, has had a fire in the engine bay, pretty substantial, should get the car for cheap.
mk2_escort
apparently u can cut out a trans tunnel from a auto eski (ghia model) and put that in its place as they are a bit bigger 2 incorperate the auto gearbox which must b a tad bigger. i also want 2 do this conversion, i have a mk2 and a whole sierra as the donor. wot needs 2 b done 2 the driveshafts? davidian
theres a freakin zillion topics done including d-shafts. look them up
Gaz
Why weld a whole auto tunnel in when you can beat the standard one in a few minutes to accomodate the box...
R100
Why weld a whole auto tunnel in when you can beat the standard one in a few minutes to accomodate the box... some people like myself couldnt bring them to beat the tunnel with a hammer, i consider it a bit ruff. If you had a spare shell lying round that was auto, cutting the tunnel out and welding it into the car your building is definatly a good idea, personally i would just cut the factory tunnel to accomodate the new gear box. Its such a minimal amount. But yeah if ya can do it then do it. It doesnt have to be a ghia auto either. Just any auto escort.
RT
beating it with a hammer sounds ruff but you can't see it so who cares?
